This is not a comfortable place for Jews, and we are pretty obviously not welcome. I'll be leaving now.

Glad to see you are hanging around. While we certainly disagree on numerous points, I for one say that Christians owe our spiritual heritage to Judaism, and not only that, but that when we understand Judaism better, and Hebrew customs, it gives us a fresh, deeper perspective into the Gospel, and the whole Bible that we would otherwise miss.
Thanks for the kind words--and I think you're right. For the record, in my unusual position as a former Christian clergyman and now a Jew. I often find myself explaining each religion to adherents of the other. It's very common for Christians to know very little about modern Judaism, though they usually think they do; most Christians' knowledge of Judaism ends at the Crucifixion. What is less commonly known is that most Jews are equally ignorant of Christianity.
Sorry for any and all those who are, have been anti-semitic, or are bigots.
Christ was Jewish, and most all of the New Testament writers, and true Christians are the Jews best friends. True followers of Christ cannot hate any group, whether race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation, economic class or whatever.
If only all Christians agreed with you.
I deeply believe there needs to be more mutual respect.
For what it's worth, you may know this, but i think it's worth mentioning two points.

1) There are plenty of Cultural Jews-- who may be circumcized and have the last name Rosenberg, or Weiss, or whatever, but do not keep the Torah, or even practice the holidays, and diminish the significance of Jewish History and Culture. Seinfeld comes to mind.
That is quite true, but we affirm and accept them anyway. Even Jewish atheists are still Jews. And within the religious community, we leave each other alone about our personal levels of observance and our individual approaches to and understandings of the faith.

We have a saying about our differences: "When the pogroms start, it won't matter."
2). I am Scots Irish American Protestant Republican living in 99% Culturally Catholic Poland. My point here, my friend, is that sometimes people may not like me, or disagree with me strongly, but it often has little or nothing to do with my being 14% Scots, or 22% Irish, or Protestant, or Calendar Day Creation, for that matter.
In Poland, it might be sufficient cause to hate you that you don't hate Jews.

I acknowledge that many Poles are not bigots, and that thousands risked their lives to rescue and hide Jews from the Nazis; but antisemitism has been endemic in Eastern Europe for centuries, and it still is.
Don't take it as personal rejection. Sometimes, it may just be my views or your views on a subject, and that combined with the way you express it, and the weather that day. I have had some responsed that seemed very hostile, and then had great PMs later with those same atheists. 8-)

Shalom,

Grace and Peace, :)

My brief departure from the forum happened a long time ago, and had little to do with my being personally insulted (though that was surely the case). It had more to do with my impatience at the moderators' (properly) slow and deliberate actions to discipline the most vicious and vitriolic antisemite I have ever seen. I was, I think understandably, eager to see him barred immediately, and did not understand deliberate action in the face of egregious hatred.

But they finally gave the SOB the bum's rush, and now everybody's happy.

Thanks for the post.

:chuckel: I was doing so good at not commenting on this since you became one of "us" but I just can't help myself...............

Don't you just hate it when............... So how does it feel to be one of the ones people get impatient at now???

I recall the attacks and I was also appalled. I wanted to slap someone.

It's easier to understand the deliberate pace of probation and banning; but since you ask -

There are those who are banned almost immediately now, and I still think that Smersh should have been among them. Seriously proposing that Jews routinely commit ritual murder and drink Christian children's blood should have gotten him banned in hours, not weeks. If I were a moderator when he was on the forum, his posts would have been trashed instantly as opposed to being allowed to fester and stink. I still regard that episode as a matter of dereliction of duty, not as fair and deliberate consideration.

You did ask.

Confused!

You had me thinking that CNorman was skipping out on us again and after just having been made a moderator too.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Sorry about that. Charles isn't going anywhere. He has shown himself to be entirely too valuable with his vernacular alone. But the respect I hold for him goes beyond that. I just couldn't help but note the vast change in his position, rightly so. There are some who are banned immediately now, but there are still some that we must take into account the variables that make it take a while before serious action is taken. There is also the behind the scenes actions that are being taken that the general public and our forum members don't see.

Primarily, it was meant in humor and well...... I am not nearly as good expressing myself with written words......actually, I am not so great even with spoken words :-k . Guess the whole emotion thing isn't by strong suit. Buggers.

I do feel privileged to he in on these behind-the-scenes discussions, and I agree that the decisions are often far from simple.

Bah. You and I know better.

On the humor - I admit it's ironic to feel the lumps on my head from brickbats that are identical to some I have thrown myself ....
