Anybody want to debate the book The God Delusion?

Post by otseng »

I finally got a copy of The God Delusion by Dawkins from the library. And as I was reading it, I was thinking that I'd love to debate this book. Anybody want to debate this book? (It'll probably be several weeks before I can engage in a debate. I'd like to finish the current debate on Nature's Destiny first.)

If you would like to participate in the debate, please post in this thread "Sign me up" and I'll add you to the list of participants.

As of 4/30, these are the participants:

 I received the newsletter about this debate. I think most of the debaters here are far superior in their knowledge and skills than me, but after reading the book, I'd like to follow the debate along, possibly interjecting a thought or two if that's allowed.

You are added to the list.

Also, out of curiousity, I've added some profile information of the participants.

Does my being on this list twice mean i'm to stand on both sides of the discussion??

Like the rest of the mob, i have a bifurcated brain with the left and right sides taking up their assigned roles. But if i'm expected to argue both for and against whatever TGD has to say, i'll likely be ready for a room with soft walls by the time we're done.

Sorry about that. You know only have to debate for one side. :)

It would seem we are outnumbered O. I guess we shall have to bring out the big guns. :2gun:
It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

Yep, outnumbered as usual. You want the front or the rear?

Hi otseng,

Quite some time ago I read and did a non-exhaustive review of the book. It is located here www.apologeticsonline.net When I get time I'll check in and see what's going on, and contribute what I can, when I can. Thanks.

G'day, Paul,

Like you, i have also produced a non-exhaustive review of TGD, It can be found on Amazon here:

A message from the Middle World, October 20, 2006

Although we are discussing but one book, there are others recently published, such as Scott Atran's, Pascal Boyer's and Daniel C. Dennett's works. I can give you pointers to my thoughts on them, should you wish to see them.

I wouldn't mine joining the debate as well. I read the book already.

School will be out shortly as well, which means I'll be down to one night class :D This should leave me with some actual time to participate.

I've added Paul D and Chad.

I've created the group 2007 The God Delusion and added all the members. If you have signed up and do you see yourself as a member of that group, please post here and I'll get you added.

I've also created an administrative thread for the debate. And on Tuesday, I'll create the first thread for us to start debating chapter 1.
