When I learned that the Bible speaks of a restored Garden of Eden and the restoration of mankind to the perfection and endless life that Adam forfeited, I was thrilled. Who doesn't want to keep living on this beautiful earth, with our loved ones, and being able to do all the things we love to do---endlessly?
If God said to you today, "When do you want to die?" would you say "now!!"? I don't think very many people would say that.
We CAN live forever here on Earth. The Bible tells us that we can.

My 2cents say it is up to we people humanity to make earth a paradise. God did all he is going to do already . God put us on a most beautiful planet. Genesis calls it a garden and rightly so , it is here for us to make good use of. It is the raw material. Humanity however seems to be the wild card the joker in the deck. We seem to have the wrong idea as to go about it. Paradise is already here we have just fouled it up so far. When if ever we can turn the corner of our ego centered foolishness we can be on the way. Christians all agree we are sinners. Jesus said we can change our ways, its called repentance. So if enough people stop being a-holes we will be on our way . It is up to us whether we live in paradise of this world of woe , the best of times or the worst of times. God simply wants the best for all of us. Christ shows the way but we actually have to make it real.

Could you mean that:

We certainly can know what his characteristics are, and I was just bringing out that we have no right to say what it is that he must be.

I'm with Blastcat on this one. This looks contradictory to me. We can know what God's characteristics are (in this case, omniscience), but we have no right to say what he must be, it is God who decides what 'omniscience' even means?
That looks to me like you don't know what God's characteristics are. For all you know, God changed the definition of 'omniscient' and didn't bother telling you.
I'm having a bit of trouble knowing what that means.
Could you mean that:
- 1. Some of are told by God what omniscience means and some of us are not?
2. That you don't know what omniscience means?
3. That you do, and if so,
4. That God told you that?

It may be up to us people, humanity, to restore our planet to its Eden state but we need the assistance of our fellow humans, (which doesn't happen a lot), as well as some divine assistance in calming the seas and the volcanoes and the winds.dio9 wrote:

There are bits of the planet that aren't quite so Eden-like and people there starve. Those of us who have snow and polar bears for company might not see our landscape as a nice garden. I'm not sure how Christ advised us on matters ecological, though he did tell us to be nice to each other. Man must take some of the blame for our planetary mess but not all. Vesuvius didn't spill over Pompeii because the Romans were bad gardeners.

You say that God "did all he is going to do already," but Dio, that is not what the Bible tells us. It tells us that JESUS, along with his Father, will act in a very big way and do away with all of men's governments, and Jesus will reign for a thousand years. Are you casting those Bible statements aside? It is true that we have messed up this gorgeous planet, and we will have to work hard (under Jesus' direction) to clean it up again, but it will happen. Mankind cannot and will not do it on its own. There are always mean, selfish, cruel people who will not allow true peace & security. They have to be fed to the birds before anything can be changed. You've got the point when you say, "If we can just stop being ***holes, we'll be on our way." Yes, we are expected by God to change our sinful ways and be repentant. That is true. But not all people want to. What about them? Those are the very people that control the world. And who controls THEM? If the world belongs to Satan, how will it ever right itself? (IJohn 5:19) Satan is a mighty spirit person, and is called "the god of this world." (2Corinthians 4:4) Only another mighty spirit being can conquer him. This is what the Bible promises. And when this happens, THEN we people who want to change out of being *******s will be able to make the earth Paradise again.

I'd much rather leave the personal stuff out of it.. and just deal with the reasoning.

Perhaps pomposity is in the eye of the debater.

Care to tell me where I was being pompous? Unless I'm mistaken, which of us here is saying they understand what God is, what his characteristics are? (while at the same time claiming that only God knows what the definitions for characteristics even mean, curiously enough...)onewithhim wrote: [Replying to post 152 by Blastcat]
I was just trying to deflate his pomposity a little.

1. Yes we need the assistance of our fellow humans, that's why I say its up to us. As for God's will, that's already we should assist each other, as in answer to Cains question , we are our brothers keepersmarco wrote:It may be up to us people, humanity, to restore our planet to its Eden state but we need the assistance of our fellow humans, (which doesn't happen a lot), as well as some divine assistance in calming the seas and the volcanoes and the winds.dio9 wrote:

2. Its what it is, God's will is already established , it is the spiritual part of the creation. An that is not only that we assist each other but that we have good will toward each other. God's will is that we not be a-holes.
3. Volcanoes are going to act like volcanoes , really you can't blame God for volcanoes and polar bears .

2. Indeed the Gospels imply the world belongs to Satan, but that was not God's plan. I'm sure you know Satan is a usurper. Believe it or not like Jesus humans have it in them to be command Satan dismiss and cast out our nature is sons of God , Satan at best the highest archangel before the fall was only a servant. Less than a son and daughter. Actually we cast out Satan when we stop acting like a-holes.
