Haven't we all, at one time or another, wondered what the future will be like? Experts of men have had a spotty reputation as most of their predictions have proved untrue.
What does the Bible tell us? "The God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed....It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever." (Daniel 2:44, Revised Standard Version)
Is this good news? Of course, when we realize what God's Kingdom is. It is a real government that will replace all of the existing governments on the earth and stand forever. Stability and order will be brought to people on the earth. What will life be like under this government?
NO MORE WAR (Psalm 46:9)
NO MORE SICKNESS (Isaiah 33:24)
NO MORE FOOD SHORTAGE (Psalm 72:16)
NO MORE PAIN, SORROW AND DEATH (Revelation 21:4)
These are just some of the promises made in the Bible about God's Kingdom, and there are more. God has promised all these wonderful things for the future. All righteously inclined people can avail themselves of these promises. Does this sound good to you?

I personally think that the promise of a newly cleansed earth and all that the Bible says we will be blessed with is a marvelous hope. Does anyone else have this hope?

Re: THE FUTURE
Post #193Some versions have a comma between "God" and "and Savior Jesus Christ," denoting two individuals. "God" AND our "Savior Jesus Christ." Not a good scripture to show equality between God and Jesus. It is God who is "our great God." Jesus says his Father is God. (John 17:3) Not himself.Capbook wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2025 3:33 pmYes, looking for that blessed hope and appearing of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.onewithhim wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 10:48 am [Replying to onewithhim in post #190]

You have to know Jesus who truly Jesus is to experience eternal life. (John 17:3)
God's Word version below knows who Jesus is. Comma is in the right place.
Tit 2:13 At the same time we can expect what we hope for—the appearance of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. (God's Word)

Re: THE FUTURE
Post #195God's Word Version is highly biased. That comma doesn't belong there. As we recall, there are no commas in Greek or Hebrew. Most versions leave the comma out entirely, so it is reasonable to read the verse as referring to two Persons. "Our great God AND Savior Jesus Christ." Two individuals.Capbook wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 11:52 amI can recall that you prefer ESV translation than to others. Remember the year 1975?
The bad thing about that year is, that was the year when the end of times were supposed to commence, according to the WTS.
But here we are, almost 50 years later...still here!! Which means the prophecy/predict was FALSE.
The good thing about that year is, there are former JW's who were active witnesses during that time, and are alive today and can testify that the organization was teaching, and preaching members to get ready and be prepared for Christ's second return.
So you can't spin the situation or gaslight us to believe that the false 1975 prophecy was nothing other than precisely, a FALSE prophecy.

Re: THE FUTURE
Post #197Laugh all you want. I was a JW in 1975 and I saw no pressure to believe that this year was the end. If it happened, good. If not, oh well. We went on with our lives. The WTS WAS right about the "time of the gentiles" coming to an end. (Luke 21:24) That year was significant according to Biblical chronology. No one else saw that year as fulfilling prophecy. Others missed the fact that Jesus acted on his role as King of the Kingdom of God and started to lead his congregations in the way of preaching the good news intensely to the world (Matthew 24:14). When this has been done to God's satisfaction, then the end will come.SiNcE_1985 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:05 amAnd most of those untrue predictions came from the governing body of the Watchtower & Tract Society.onewithhim wrote: ↑Sat Nov 04, 2023 7:38 pm Haven't we all, at one time or another, wondered what the future will be like? It was easy to see how the WTS would have thought that the end of the system had come in 1975---it was 6,000 years since the time of Adam's creation. What they didn't consider was the creation of Eve. They understood later that her creation had to be taken into consideration. The WTS has resolved not to try to guess when the end will come, any further. All we know is that the time seems ripe, and it will happen soon, according to Matthew chapter 24.
The WTS never said that God has said that 1975 is the year that the system will end. They said that it was likely. Their teaching was not an actual prophecy. All the WTS does is forewarn people about God's judgments as outlined in the Bible. They get no new instructions. Theirs was an educated guess, not a prophecy.

Were you a young person in 75?
Because if you were, you were told..
No need for college or higher education, as what good could it serve since the time is near!!"If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things.
Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years.
Of the generation that observed the beginning of the "last days" in 1914, Jesus foretold: "This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur."-Matt. 24:34. Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers.
If you are in highschool and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone!" Awake! 1969 May 22 p.15

Their predictions should be successes, not failures.

Re: THE FUTURE
Post #200Again I say, the WTS never said that the end in 1975 was set in stone. They said it was likely since Adam was created 6,000 years ago from that date. They said that it could happen that young people would not grow old in this system. They said that "the system of things would be well on its way to its finish IF not actually gone." That was true. And they said "if." That's not an absolute prediction. And "well on its way" is not saying that 1975 is actually the date that the system will end. In 1975 the system of things was on its way to its finish. There is not an absolute decree there that the end would come in 1975.SiNcE_1985 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 7:15 pmOh, is that right..you were a JW in 1975?onewithhim wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 12:54 pm Laugh all you want.
