What comes out when someone squeezes you?

What comes out when someone squeezes you?

". . . someone squeezes you, puts pressure on you, says something you don’t like, offends you. And out of you comes anger, hatred, bitterness, fear. Why? The answer, as our young friend has told us, is because that’s what’s inside."

Debaters take note
Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

I was preparing to speak at an I Can Do It conference and I decided to bring an orange on stage with me as a prop for my lecture. I opened a conversation with a bright young fellow of about twelve who was sitting in the front row.

“If I were to squeeze this orange as hard as I could, what would come out? I asked him.
He looked at me like I was a little crazy and said, “Juice, of course.
“Do you think apple juice could come out of it?
“No! he laughed.
“What about grapefruit juice?
“No!
“What would come out of it?
“Orange juice, of course.
“Why? Why when you squeeze an orange does orange juice come out?
He may have been getting a little exasperated with me at this point.
“Well, it’s an orange and that’s what’s inside.

I nodded. “Let’s assume that this orange isn’t an orange, but it’s you. And someone squeezes you, puts pressure on you, says something you don’t like, offends you. And out of you comes anger, hatred, bitterness, fear. Why? The answer, as our young friend has told us, is because that’s what’s inside.

It’s one of the great lessons of life. What comes out when life squeezes you? When someone hurts or offends you? If anger, pain and fear come out of you, it’s because that’s what’s inside. It doesn’t matter who does the squeezing—your mother, your brother, your children, your boss, the government. If someone says something about you that you don’t like, what comes out of you is what’s inside. And what’s inside is up to you, it’s your choice.

When someone puts the pressure on you and out of you comes anything other than love, it’s because that’s what you’ve allowed to be inside. Once you take away all those negative things you don’t want in your life and replace them with love, you’ll find yourself living a highly functioning life.

Thanks, my young friend, and here’s an orange for you!

When someone hugs me  tends to come out.
Is this a deliberate misunderstanding or misconstruing of "". . . someone squeezes you, puts pressure on you, says something you don’t like, offends you. And out of you comes anger, hatred, bitterness, fear"?

Many Non-Theists here put pressure on Theists to substantiate their claims of knowledge about supernatural entities and events. Often what comes out are posts that give some indication of "anger, hatred, bitterness" -- perhaps in the form of personal attack and/or personal comments to the challenger rather than open and honest answer to the challenge.

Why is that?

It's a joke. Why so serious?

Likely the same reason why many non-theists exhibit "anger, hatred, bitterness" - man is sinful and fallen etc etc.
The response to the refugee crisis has been troubling, exposing... just how impoverished our moral and political discourse actually is. For the difficult tasks of patient deliberation and discriminating political wisdom, a cult of sentimental humanitarianism--Neoliberalism's good cop to its bad cop of foreign military interventionism--substitutes the self-congratulatory ease of kneejerk emotional judgments, assuming that the 'right'...is immediately apparent from some instinctive apprehension of the 'good'. -AR

Jokes belong in Daily Laugh http://debatingchristianity.com/forum/v ... hp?t=10136 NOT in serious discussion or debate (the intent and purpose of this website). There are other sites that welcome comedians and jokesters.

A tiny bit of humor in the midst of an otherwise serious and contributing post may not be objectionable, but emphasis on humor is inappropriate.

Notice that this site and its Rules and Guidelines prohibit posts that contribute nothing to debate (particularly one-liners).

The "sinful and fallen" characterization of man is a religious concept that is not assumed true.

Many who are heavily emotionally invested in their debate position regard challenges to their claims and statements as being "anger, hatred and bitterness" – whether there is evidence of that or not. Perhaps that comes with the territory of believing without evidence characteristic of religion.

I don't see you objecting to either of the posts below, but I'm just sure there's some serious point being contributed to the discussion in both that I just don't see.

Very good lesson. I admit this is much different than what I was imagining. Sometimes when you squeeze people bad air comes out.
Divine Insight wrote: Well, I nailed it! Before I even clicked on the thread the first answer that came to my mind was: "Humanade!".

After all, if you squeeze a lemon you get lemonade. ;)

So squeeze me baby and I'll serve you up some humanade. O:)

It is easy to ignore what is inside, or to ignore or deny what comes out, perhaps by justifying it and making excuses.

I've done that very thing... in fact, on the night this was posted by you, Z, I had handled someone from work 'squeezing' me in a 'catty' way. I ignored my reaction, justified it, the voice (of my Lord) telling me I was being uncharitable and I would regret it when I did see it in myself, then came home... saw this thread, and said, "Aw, hell!"

So this thread was opportune for me at least.

And that is really all this is about. Examining oneself. Forcing yourself to see what you probably don't want to see, and then working on it.

Peace to you,
your servant and a slave of Christ,
tammy

I disagree, humour is important to release tension and to make even a serious and professional place fun. Imagine if you weren't allowed to make jokes at work... If jokes were outlawed on DC&R I'd quit logging in... at least until I started again.

We're also in General chat.

Quite. Also, if Zzyzx sees a problem with my joke-post, as well as the other three joke-posts made in this thread prior to mine, he can very well report them.

The rule against one liners only applies to debate subforums. Casual Chit chat is allowed in any thread in a "Chat" subforum, not just the Daily Laugh thread.
