Welcome!

It seems to me, that new members rarely post a introduction thread anymore. As such I am making this thread as a way that new members can say hi, and get to know a couple of people on the forums.

So to all the new members:

First of all, hello!

Second, why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself?
“People generally quarrel because they cannot argue.
- G.K. Chesterton

“A detective story generally describes six living men discussing how it is that a man is dead. A modern philosophic story generally describes six dead men discussing how any man can possibly be alive.
- G.K. Chesterton

Hello

I like to learn about people's opinions.
This might be a good place to start.
I ask questions, a lot.

Welcome to the forum. You will find out a lot about people opinions and beliefs here.
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

Hello everyone,

I'm David and I've recently stumbled upon this great forum. I'm from Indiana, 47 years old, and I'm a Bible student and believer. I was an atheist until at the age of 27 I began to study the Bible in order to debunk it. I'm not, nor have I ever been, a part of any organized religion, though my Bible beliefs are similar to the Jehovah's Witnesses.

I've been debating and discussing the Bible for nearly 20 years online, and I still enjoy learning of people and their beliefs that differ from mine. I've started a humble website, The Pathway Machine a few months ago and you are welcome to check it out to get a sense of my own beliefs and interests.

This forum has some thought provoking posts and I look forward to participating in respectful debate and discussion with as many of you as possible, and I've carefully read all of the following:

Rules and principles:
Welcome
Debate Forum Intro and Rules
Respect - The overriding principle of this forum
Tips on how to remain civil while debating
Guidelines for the C&A subforum
Debating for beginners (and others)
A Style Guide

Technicalities:
Tips on starting a debate topic
Quick BBCode Tutorial - How do you quote, link, image, bold?
Tokens

Thanks,

DLH

Welcome

It is good that you have read some of the rules and background stuff prior to participating.

I notice that the Games section of your site, http://www.pathwaymachine.com/interlude/games3.htm only lists online computer games. Might I suggest that old school board games might be of interest. They are far more sociable to play and nothing online beats actually handling cardboard chits, wood blocks and cards. For a list of some of the most popular look to http://boardgamegeek.com/browse/boardgame , these are certainly not your parents' roll and move Monopoly type games.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.
First Epistle to the Church of the Thessalonians
The truth will make you free.

Welcome David! My story is almost the inverse of yours -- I was a devout Christian until I actually started studying and critically analyzing the claims of the Bible, and that, along with science and philosophy, led me down the path of doubt and skepticism.

Quick question: do you now believe in a literal god, or do you see the Christian god as more of a symbol (as many non-orthodox, liberal Christians do)?

 Thanks, McCulloch, I had no idea that there were so many creative games out there that don't require electronics. Thanks for visiting my website. I have read the rules, and all of that, and hope that my posting reflects that, though I'm sure I will mess up from time to time.
