It seems to me, that new members rarely post a introduction thread anymore. As such I am making this thread as a way that new members can say hi, and get to know a couple of people on the forums.

So to all the new members:

First of all, hello!

Second, why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself?
“People generally quarrel because they cannot argue.
- G.K. Chesterton

“A detective story generally describes six living men discussing how it is that a man is dead. A modern philosophic story generally describes six dead men discussing how any man can possibly be alive.
- G.K. Chesterton

For the benefit of readers:

This sort of emotional and uncivil outburst is not permitted in this sub-forum or any other on this website. Nastiness is simply not tolerated. The Probation / Banned list attests to insistence on adherence to site Rules, Guidelines, Policies, and Practices.

Notice how inappropriate this attitude is in a "Welcome" thread – without provocation or personal / emotional involvement by anyone else. Is this representative of the message of Christianity?

Do such posts bring discredit on the individual and the group s/he represents?

This is a response to Moderator Action – which is specifically prohibited in threads. It has been reported and one of the Moderators will address the issue. Blatant and persistent rule infractions can result in Probation, Suspension and/or Banishment by vote of the Admin / Moderator team (eight people, half of whom are Theists and half Non-Theist).

Ultimate responsibility / decision is that of Otseng, site owner, Administrator, Christian, extremely fair (to a fault it seems at times), and excellent debater.

Do the terms "dripping oozing slimming" seem to fit post #306 rather than the Forum?
robinriley wrote: So thell me, protective moderators ... it this fellow, this author of books ...YOU ... like, is he a member of this forum?

....NO!...

He is not a member of this forum ... nor should he be "PROTECTED" by you ...
Slander or ANY individuals or groups is not permitted – whether they are members of the Forum or not.

It is irrational when moving a book debate to the book debate sub-forum is "interpreted" as being CRUSHED.

I do not speak for others, but see myself as a rational, fallible human being debating honorably here and also doing the often thankless job of Moderating – maintaining civility and the quality of debates to the best of my ability and the limits of time available.

Some debate opponents appear to see me as the great bogyman or Anti-Christ or other disreputable character when I challenge their claims and stories. If they speak truth there is nothing to get upset about.

Those who do not fare well in debate often seem to blame everyone other than themselves. Some come here with a big chip on their shoulder and/or emotional / psychological problems. Moderator Comments and Warnings are intended to give people a bit of leeway in adjusting to rules, guidelines, policies and practices; however, occasionally a new member wears out that "newbie latitude" very quickly.

Greetings,

I sometimes have time to kill while at work (my job involves a lot of waiting on others) so I thought I'd join this board and see how it goes.

Peace.

Welcome! Take a look at the rules and the index to see what meets your interests.
Christianity & Apologetics is one of the most popular sub forums and has its own guidelines. There's also a helpful post on presenting evidence.
Good luck and have fun.

Hi All - from newbie Lion IRC

Hi All

I found this forum by investigation after reading a cross-posted Op over at the Reasonable Faith Forum, the original of which appears to have been first posted here.

I would have liked to engage with the author over there but - true confession - I was recently temp-banned without warning and all my attempted posts since then have been consigned to a moderation queue which appears to be a permanent state of limbo. :(

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind following rules of engagement - as long as long as they aren't asymmetric. (I'm pleased to see that the rules here appear to be taken very seriously.) I intend and will try my best to avoid infractions and I welcome PM's from anyone with free advice or experience and wants to offer me a private suggestion rather than hitting the report button.

I like the noble, enlightenment ideal of civil and respectful dialogue in a public square contest of ideas
...but I like free speech even more.

Greetings.

So it just entered my mind that I never actually officially posted here to introduce myself. I was invited here to participate in a debate. The reason I chose my screenname is because I thought I'd be debating God's existence, but it turns out I ended up debating the abortion issue.

My name is Clinton and I'm basically a full-time pro-life advocate. I work for an organization called Life Training Institute, and I live in California. I specialize in training pro-life people to make the pro-life case more effectively, by using good arguments and avoiding bad ones, as well as interacting with the best arguments the pro-choice side has to offer, and more persuasively, by treating pro-choice people respectfully and having good conversations with them.

I spend much of my time writing. I write for the LTI blog, as well as for Secular Pro-Life and various other blogs. I am slated to have an article I recently wrote published in an academic journal. I am also currently working on two books.

Apart from that, I'm a professional musician. I lead the worship band at my church, and I play in a few bands across town. I am classically trained, occasionally playing in various concert bands, or chamber ensembles (woodwind choir, woodwind trio/quintet, etc.). I also play for weddings, funerals, and various other functions.

I was originally attending college to obtain a degree in music education but before I could finish, my life took a different turn. I would like to return to college to complete a degree in philosophy. If you read my debate, you know I hold to Aristotelian/Thomistic metaphysics. Some of the thinkers who have most influenced me are Aristotle, G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, William Lane Craig, JP Moreland, Frank Beckwith, and Immanuel Kant.

That's about it for now. Not sure what else I should add.
