What happened to Paul on the road to Damascus?Acts 9 English Standard Version (ESV)
The Conversion of Saul
9 But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3 Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. 4 And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? 5 And he said, Who are you, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 6 But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do. 7 The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one. 8 Saul rose from the ground, and although his eyes were opened, he saw nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. 9 And for three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank.

Did it? Can the story be shown to be anything more than a fable?
There were none unless the event actually happened.Wootah wrote: How many witnesses did Moses have at the burning bush in Exodus 3?

Is there assurance that the tale is true?
The writer of 'Acts' told a story about a supernatural experience Paul/Saul supposedly had on the road.Wootah wrote: What happened to Paul on the road to Damascus?

Wootah: There is no way Saul is going to violate the Shema
William: One has to remember that there are many instances where strangers were recognized as non-Human Entities and were referred to as 'Lord'.
The Three Visitors to Abraham near the Great Trees of Mamre were all - at different points of the story - referred to as 'Lord' and it seems to be a largely unavoidable reflex, of which Saul is also under the influence of, regardless of the script he might have been following, prior to the encounter.
Of course, as the JW's point out in their own beliefs of script, apparently Satan can pretend to be Jesus and God, so if that were to be the case, there is no way of knowing for certain who it was Saul encountered. I think the JW's bend their rule here in that they still believe that Saul encountered Jesus...anyone else apparently is either brain-damaged or deceived by Satan, take your pick.

I think Paul's Damascus road story is fiction....
LOOK!!!!
Acts 9:7
King James Version (KJV)
7And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
In this verse the men STOOD and HEARD A VOICE.
But lets look at how Paul told the story at other times.
Acts 26:14
King James Version (KJV)
14And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
In this verse THEY ALL FELL DOWN, while in the previous verse the men STOOD.
Acts 22:9
King James Version (KJV)
9And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.
In this verse the men DID NOT HEAR A VOICE, but in the first verse they HEARD A VOICE.
Inconsistencies like this wreak of fabrication...
