Many Christians appear to be upset because I and others do not share their belief in things supernatural. Some become angry when we refuse to believe their literature, dogma and preachings. Many threaten us with "eternal damnation" if we reject their gods.
Can anyone give a coherent answer to:
Why does my disbelief bother Christians?

ANY of the thousands of "gods" proposed, imagined, worshiped, loved, feared, and/or fought over by humans MAY exist -- awaiting verifiable evidence

Because to Christians have the self imposed duty to feel offended for their god. Let me give you a little insight on how the christian mind works. I think being a former christian myself qualifies me to do it.
Put yourself in god's shoes. He created you! he made you who you are! he gave you what you have! How can you be so ungrateful and deny him this way?!! How sickening!!
When you see it from this point of view, of course your disbelief is going to offend christians. Because every skeptic stance, every rational thought, every disagreement with god, and even doubt is an offense to god himself!
You are just an ungrateful human being that has too much pride to believe in higher things.
Thats why your disbelief bother (offends) christians.

For the record, your disbelief does not bother all Christians. I am sure there are others like me are not bothered.
Why do others get bothered? I think it can run from anything to obnoxiousness to insecurity. I think it could be heartfelt, also, but maybe not adequately communicated.

Mutual respect is important regardless of differences. He is a good man a person who does right by others (perhaps in spite of his religion). He is NOT intolerant or condemning. And, above all he does NOT proselytize (at least not with me). Perhaps he isnt a "Real Christian"?
I agree that not all Christians are bothered by my disbelief. For example, just a couple hours ago I was jousting with a friend who is a Christian minister. He is not at all bothered by my attitude and irreverence and I am not bothered by his reverence. We do not discuss religion and he does not attempt to use "god talk" with me (and I do not use "GD it" in his presence).twobitsmedia wrote:For the record, your disbelief does not bother all Christians. Re: Why does my disbelief bother Christians?
Post #15None of my Christian friends ever bring up religion. They realize that they have no real arguments, they can produce no evidence and if they do so, it doesn't take me long to back them into a theological corner. Therefore, the subject never comes up, except as a part of a discussion about current events or something. I've had them try to convert me and in the end, they're the ones that were admitting they had no good reason for believing what they believe.Zzyzx wrote:I agree that not all Christians are bothered by my disbelief. Indoctrination
Post #16I really think that indoctrination is the problem. If one is indoctrinated to such an extent that the cococted superstition which is popular and all around them, they will eventually become so immersed into it, they will defend it against all reason and logic or other superstition.
I have been watching a documentary on Mormonism. Christians killing and hating Christians. Joseph Smith sees visions and conjures a 'new Christianity'. He didn't think the various versions that others had concocted were complete and in similar fashion to Mohammed centuries earlier, made up his own Religion, claiming visions to support it. So in the end, it is all about indoctrination....and who has the most guns....how persuasive the indoctrinator.

Would "LOL UR A N00B!!!1!11!" count as an adequate counter-argument to your proposition?naturalist wrote:Yes, we do. People who are so self-obsessively arrogant, even if it is 'by proxy' while using their own god as an excuse, deserve no respect.

I wanted to apologize, maybe I misunderstood your first reply. I am not here to get in fights but to exchange opinions and points of view.Negachrist wrote:Would "LOL UR A N00B!!!1!11!" count as an adequate counter-argument to your proposition?naturalist wrote:Yes, we do.
