God formed Man out of the earth. and breathed into him the breath of life. and Man became a living being. Genesis 2:7
The dust returns to the earth as it was. and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7
You do not die when the body dies the spirit is everlasting infinite standing on the ground of eternity. Bhagavad-Gita
All things are made of spirit and body. Spirit is the infinite and eternal part ( as per Genesis) Yang to the bodies Yin. Spirit is contagious it passes from one to another. it is greater than and not completely contained by the body. It resonates out from a person to his environment like neighboring tuning forks resonate at the same frequency. That's why Jesus said love your neighbor , because it will do you good. Spirit is recognized by all faiths a common thread running through them . Spirit is in you and affecting you everywhere you go. We already live in the spiritual world.
Question for discussion :
First of all , do you believe or feel you have a spirit? (if not please don't answer 3 and 4)
Are you a body with a spirit or a spirit with a body?
Do we generate our spirit or is spirit something eternal given to us?

Post #41If someone is truly delusional, then pointing it out is not just "calling them names". Would a psychiatrist be calling his patients names if he identified symptoms of delusional thinking? Or would he merely be describing what he sees?JP Cusick wrote:Calling names might make your self feel better but it does nothing for a discussion between adults.
What's so scary about believing people have spirits? Frankly, atheism seems a lot scarier to me than theism. Could your denial of atheism be a defense mechanism?JP Cusick wrote: In fact "denial denial denial" is the defense mechanism for those who can not face the scary stuff.

some people just don't have a sense of spirit. Its a sense thing. Spirit is as obvious to me as the sunrise. what can I say? just smell the roses.

Post #43No, the word for that is fetus.dio9 wrote:spirit is simply who you were before you were born.
No it isn't. The exact time and location of sunrise can be measured and predicted. No so much with things spiritual.dio9 wrote:some people just don't have a sense of spirit. Its a sense thing. Spirit is as obvious to me as the sunrise. what can I say? just smell the roses.

my understanding is spirit is life itself. after death who knows go to sleep and don't wake up or until the resurrection , merge with God go to paradise or go to hell or wake up in a totally different body. People believe all sorts of things. All I can say for sure is spirit is part of my life. I believe spirit merges eventually with God who gave it.

Post #45I say it is scary because I find that most people (American people) are terrified of the dead and of dying.DrNoGods wrote: ... why would you think that someone who sees "mind" (or consciousness) as simply a manifestation of brain activity would find an alternative view "scary"?
Most people do view spirits and ghosts as scary.

You do know, by the way, that man is not formed from the ground, right? Most of your biomass comes from the air, because most of plant's biomass comes from the air (the carbon they remove from CO2 during photosynthesis).
But to answer your question, there is no evidence of a soul or a spirit or any other such notion.

Wonderful! You are sure of something! How have you gained that certainty? Is spirit part of your life or is spirit life itself?dio9 wrote:All I can say for sure is spirit is part of my life.

Post #48I am open to spirits (and ghosts, devils, leprechaun, unicorns, big foot and Loch Ness, etc...), but have yet to see any real evidence for them.dio9 wrote: God formed Man out of the earth. and breathed into him the breath of life. and Man became a living being. Genesis 2:7

This includes back in my earlier days when I did believe in spirits for example.
You can give a man a fish and he will be fed for a day, or you can teach a man to pray for fish and he will starve to death.

well that's what I think spirit is and what happens to spirit after the body wears out .
I asked in the opening statement what do you think spirit is. I posted what I think. I ask what do you think spirit is? you apparently don't believe such a thing as spirit exists. I am not trying to change anyones mind . Just what do you think about it for the sake of discussion.

Post #50Is this god behind psychopaths 'working' as you claim? I ask, because there is a very specific part that doesn't work and I have to wonder why a god failed them in this area.JehovahsWitness wrote: [Replying to post 9 by dio9]
Maybe I was too vague. Just like electricity is the power that makes a computer or a light or an electric fan work, God's spirit makes humans or animals work*.
Hope that helps,
JW
* This is an illustration, I am not saying God's spirit is electricty its just a word picture to try and make a point.
