"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Co. 15:58
Is there any difference between the Christian doctrine of "steadfastness" and "willfull ignorance"?
Are Christians "willfully ignorant"?

The problem with forums like that is that ignorance isn't encouraged, it's mandatory. Any attempt to bring a little light, reason and logic to the forum is met with being banned.Scrotum wrote:Simply put, ignorance is encouraged.
Is anyone really surprised at this kind of behavior? I think that, more than anything, demonstrates the thread topic.

I think it is part of their brain washing mind control system.
If they would read their bibles they would see that not all means what they think it says.
In one place it states that sin does not believe and those that believe are not in sin.
All of it hearsay evidence
Taking the morality out of it just causes further disassociation.
Their are some that argue that Christianity set the western world back 1000 years by systematically destroying all that disagreed with the orthodox creeds of Christianity. They destroyed writings and people. In the first 400 years Christians killed more people then the Romans ever persecuted which was a total of 5 years. The fall of the Roman Empire was due to Christianity and its intolerance. The literalist won because they were power mad.

I've found that the most Bible-illiterate people in the world are the people who profess to follow it closest. They really have no idea what it is they're supposed to believe, it's the rare Christian who has actually bothered to read the Bible cover to cover.Cathar1950 wrote:If they would read their bibles they would see that not all means what they think it says.
Most atheists know the Bible better than Christians do.
That's true. In fact, there are quotes from the early Christian church in which church fathers proclaim proudly that they've purged all non-Christian thought from the world. It's only because places like Ireland refused to follow the commands of teh church and destroy all "heretical" writings that any of these things survive today. The history of Christianity is terribly bloody. If there was a God, I'm certain he'd be retching at his "followers".Their are some that argue that Christianity set the western world back 1000 years by systematically destroying all that disagreed with the orthodox creeds of Christianity. Yeah, coz they where Christians READING the bible and discovering how absurd it isMost atheists know the Bible better than Christians do.

I thought they wanted to bring compassion and love to the world, atelast, thats what they say. To love everyone, care and help etcetera, Oh, and they do accept the "old history" they have, there where people not True Christians(tm), like.. erh. Us now, yeah, WE ARE TRUE........That's true. Dont say that man, IF he would be around, i bet he would be pretty pissed at us, shedding reality into people, forcing them to accept that the world is a sphere and we evolved.. *Shiver*... I have nightmares about her... I mean, HIM....If there was a God, I'm certain he'd be retching at his "followers".

Run the numbers. Atheists have millions more gallons of blood on their hands. Marx started a revolution that washed itself in the blood of millions and millions and millions of people. Those atheists knew a thing or two about destroying "written things" as well. The history of Christianity is terribly bloody. If there was a God, I'm certain he'd be retching at his "followers".
I agree though, that some Christians (far too many) are indeed "wilfully ignorant." If they only knew the freedom and fun to study the absurdities of their adversarie's positions are as easy to defend against as spraying air freshener into a room where flatualence hangs heavy for only the moment it takes to make it smell better in the room.
Unfortuantely it will take a ready supply of Biblical-Lysol for the next over-fed and obese heretics to do what they will inevitably do. Many people have shown they like to be led. Read infidels.org for examples and watch TBN for the Christian version.

I, sorry to correct you here, but Atheism does not have a doctrine. Christianity has a doctrine that tells them what to do. If you dont like what people have done, Fine, but to blame ATHEISM for it is so ridiculous thats its insane.Run the numbers. Atheists have millions more gallons of blood on their hands. Marx started a revolution that washed itself in the blood of millions and millions and millions of people. Those atheists knew a thing or two about destroying "written things" as well.
Atheism means lack of belief in a God or gods, thats it. To say that "Atheism" has killed millions of people is like saying that People-Like-Eating-Porridge are responsible for thousands of infant death.. erh, what? Oh yeah, The people KILLING the infants liked Porridge.. ok.. so?
Clearly People-Like-Eating-Porridge are Evil.. Coz you know, They kill infants.

No, that's not correct. Atheism is a philosophy, and philosophers define atheism as "the negation of theism, the denial of the existence of God."Scrotum wrote:Atheism means lack of belief in a God or gods, thats it.
Unfortunately after the internet was born many ill-informed people began passing around this misconceived definition of atheism.

While I am sure some Atheists would fit within your definition, not all do. I, for one, see no valid evidence supporting the existence of God, but I can honestly say the same for the tooth fairy, werewolves and Santa Claus. My position(their nonexistence) is equivalent in each case. Do you claim my nonbelief in Santa is a philosophical stance??? Philosophical Atheism may exist, but it is far from a universal definition.

harvey1, could you find a more 'on topic' thread for your "philosophical definition of atheism" argument, please? It's getting kind of troll-ish. Thanks.Grumpy wrote:"There he goes again!"
