Why debate "origin of the universe"?

Due to human mental limitations we do not know, only guess, how the universe may have originated (or if it originated).

People arguing about how the universe began seem similar, in my way of thinking, of two ants on a sidewalk next to WTC debris attempting to convince one another they know what happened.

It does not disturb me in the least to acknowledge that I (we) know as little about the universe as ants presumably know about skyscrapers and airplanes.

Unless one makes their living as an astrophysicist or astronomer, why ponder (or debate) the origin of the universe?

How can anyone rationally claim to know how the universe originated when even experts in the field acknowledge their ideas are hypotheses (or theories at best)?

Would it make any difference in your life to acknowledge that you do not know how the universe originated?

I actually stand in awe at how much we can and do know about the universe. It's just absolutely amazing what scientists have been able to discover about the nature of reality. I'll grant that there are clearly many more questions to be asked and answered. But I'm actually shocked and amazed at what we have been able to discover.

Some people are simply curious. I have been studying the deepest questions of reality my entire life. And I never once did it for the money.

Don't knock the theories, they are far more than just random guesses.

In fact, you're sounding like religions people here when they claim that evolution is "just a theory". That's totally false. Evolution is a fact. The theory of evolution is simply the name given to the explanation that we now know is true.

It would make no difference to me in this life what the truth of reality is. I wouldn't change my behavior no matter what the truth is. Nor could I imagine needing to.

But the questions are still fun to ponder. It's not that I need answers. It's just that the problems are fun to think about.
