Do pets go to heaven?

Post by Chuck_G »

My family has a pit bull named Chester. Chester is one of those dogs' that have what some call a "human like" personality. I am away from home for many months at a time and when I come home he just goes crazy. Runs through the house like, well like a "maddog", then sits at my feet. If I get angry with him he knows it and stays away but yet if I get angry at something I am working on for instance, he will come and lick me as if he wants me to calm down.

Chester is getting old and I suspect he only has a few more years left in him. I have no doubt that he loves my family and we certainly love him.

So, will God spare his "soul" and allow him through the pearly gates?

Or will he just be dead and return to nature?

Does he even have a "soul"?

I have lived with animals all my life and I have come slowly to the conclusion that their spirits are very much like our own in every respect. It amazes me, for example, that when I close my eyes in silent prayer, my kitty, Precious, comes to join me from wherever in the house she was. I don't even know how she could know!

Besides that, having lost my long time companion just recently, September 29, it is my considered opinion that dogs' loyalty and love for us is the perfect model of how we should be towards others and towards God. It is most especially evident in how forgiving they are.

(Note that I think the soul is the personality, the separated person we think we are and the spirit is the god-self or true-self. Scripture uses "spirit" and why it has been washed out of the religion, by and large, I have no clue.)

Chester will be allowed into heaven but he must rigidly adhere to the "No Butt Sniffing" policy, as that might prove to be offensive in the sight of the Lord. Leg humping is likewise not allowed.

Heaven is supposed to be a place of great happiness, right?

God is all-powerful, right?

Dogs in general are better than people in general, right?

It would not be the silliest religious notion I ever heard.

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.

I have run across dogs that seem way "cooler" than some humans.

All of the dogs I ever had knew right from wrong. If one was 'bad' while I was out (usually stealing something I should have put out of temptation), they would come and tell me they were sorry before I knew anything. Better than most people.

I don't see how any animal would be able to go to heaven, as they did not confess their sins to Jesus. The only way to Heaven is through Jesus Christ and the forgiveness of sins.

Some may say that God would never send to Hell anyone who was not able to understand, so animals could fall into the category of not being intelligent enough to know they are sinning and that they need Jesus, however if you allow for that argument then that means Jesus's death on the cross was redundant. ie, it is possible for God to forgive and send a being to Heaven without the need for any blood sacrifice. It would mean that Jesus is irrelevant to the whole salvation and forgiveness process.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Is it ok if he mauls cats to death?

Cats do not go to heaven. They go back where they came from.
