Heaven, Hell and Theme Parks

Post by connermt »

It's been said “ ...nothing sells easier than promises of an eternal admission to Disneyland combined with the equal promise of eternal torture at a Miley Cyrus concert for choosing to have a brain instead".*

Theme parks are very popular. Why? It's not because they're inexpensive as a general rule! It's because they have things that attract us: rides, animals, costumes, good food, things we don’t normally experience, etc. and we want to experience them with our friends & family or, sometimes, simply by ourselves.
While the above comparison may seem silly, the point it makes is a good one:
Heaven is a great promise and hell is a great promise for our enemies.
Sure sure…christians would say “we don’t want anyone to go to hell but many teach that – some on this forum have even stated such! X2
Now other christians would also say ‘heaven isn’t like a theme park and while this is debatable, it is the type of concept that’s taught in much of modern christianity .

There’s little doubt that this concept is being used and taught in today’s world. Is it the right way?
Should heaven be taught as this “glorious place while hell described as “eternal torment for enemies of god (aka non-believer)?
Or is there a better way to teach these concepts?

Yes, initially these concepts were taught using the places, in this world, that they actually refer to. Heaven is pretty straight forward. It refers to that which is above us, from which come resources over which we have no control (global warming aside). What is called hell is an actual place in Israel, where the refuse of the temple, the indigent and criminals where dumped. The term hades is borrowed from greek mythology and generally refers to the domain of the Adversary. That does not relate to a particular place on earth, because it is not related to man other than it is from where the Adversary comes. These concepts were jumbled and conflated in RCC doctrine for various reasons, some to support a certain line of reasoning, others to support a certain political agenda.

Never a day goes bye around here without several of your threads and questions. Why not try to answer one of these yourself. The obvious question that springs to mind here straight off the bat is, Why do people take their kids to theme parks? Well connermt , ,why do they? When you have explored the motives here then you can apply them to the supernatural if they are capable of transfer. Why are people so silly as to have their kids pictures taken with Mickey Mouse while eating $4 dollar candy floss.

Why are you so apparently angry and what do you have against questions? :-k I wonder... :-s

I know the answer - I'm looking for yours. I'm sure you realize that though, yes?

Already answered

Are they capable?

A good question. Do you have an answer, or are you asking a question?
