Magic and god

Post by connermt »

Blaine.
Angel.
Cooperfield.
Magicians. They do 'tricks' that stun and amaze many people.
God/jesus did the same type of things.
So are they nothing more than magicians?
Let's compare:
Blaine/Angel/Cooperfield/jesus = human
Blaine/Angel/Cooperfield/jesus = doing actions that surprise and impress certain (though not all) viewers
Blaine/Angel/Cooperfield/jesus = men
Let's contrast:
Blaine/Angel/Cooperfield = alive jesus = dead
Blaine/Angel/Cooperfield = verifiable in the real world jesus = unverifiable

It sure seems god can be called nothing more than a magician. Is that true, or is it something else?
How do we know this?

Magic doesn't come from God, black or white. Jesus never did magic, all His miracles was just the power of God flowing through Him. God condemns magic.

"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will
abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things
taught by demons" 1 Timothy 4:1
"I do nothing of myself" John 8:28
"My Father (GOD) is greater than I" John 14:28
Evolution: A perfect sci-fi story backed up by a science circle of ignoring that which it can't explain.

Show us that jesus didn't do magic

I don't quite see the difference. A miracle is a supernatural event brought about through the power of the deity of sizzle-d's religion whereas magic happens when there is a supernatural event brought about through the power of any spirit or deity of a religion not endorsed by sizzle-d.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

Your opinion is not total surprise, sizzle.

But let's rephrase the OP a bit.

The other men listed performed illusions, not 'magic.'
Copperfield, Blaine and others don't do 'real' magic. They just make it look that way by fooling the audience's eye when they 'turn' water into wine. Faith healers do the same when they give the illusion of lengthening a leg by manipulating the 'patient's' shoe. So how do we know Jesus was not a brilliant performer of illusions just like every one of the other magician/illusionists' in history?

Do you have any evidence besides Bible verses and preaching?

Link: T.B. Joshua heals HIV (there are youtube videos).
Showing you face-to-face is great and i'll really love to do that (really) but we would need to meet up and go to T.B. Joshua's church, i.e. SCOAN.

Not according to what Danmark said. T.B. Joshua does the healing in a church surrounded by multitudes of people so there's no audience turning, nobody even thinks of turning. They come with their before and after medical records and last time i checked, you can't magic cure HIV, fool doctors and their equipment and still be alive.
I really wish you'ld go, the shock on your face would be the "magic".

Audience is not needed to perform magic. God does it all the time. God is the greatest magician ever - it created the universe and tricks people into believing in it. Boo yeah - ultimate magician!

Oh Boy, Nigeria is the land of scams & scammers. And believing something is true because there is a you-tube video? Really? This guy would never put himself under real scientific scrutiny, cause he knows he's a scam.
*"On the other hand, we have people who are believers who are so completely sold on the literal interpretation of the first book of the Bible that they are rejecting very compelling scientific data about the age of the earth and the relatedness of living beings." Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D.
*The Atheist has the comfort of no fears for an afterlife and lacks any compulsion to blow himself up.
* Science flies to you the moon.... religion flies you into buildings.
* Faith isn’t a virtue; it is the glorification of voluntary ignorance.
