Would we really live forever?

Post by Willum »

So we have this assumption that since Eve ate the apple, that we were afflicted with this original sin, and now we get to die for it.

But is this a good assumption?
How do we know God didn't design us with the end in mind?
:)

That is to die.

There are plenty of paradoxes associated with the apple, such as not being able TO sin until she ate the apple, but sining by eating the apple.

So, given the behavior of Yahwey in the OT, how do we know he was sincere in our otherwise immortality, before?

In other words, how do we know that eating the apple changed anything?
Perhaps were were designed to die all along.

The presence in the garden of a tree that makes you immortal kind of tells you that A&E were not and never were immortal, especially when God sends an angel with a flaming sword to make sure they never ate from it.

I really don't know how to answer any of these questions, although I would like to, but with so many inaccuracies - if you are referring to the Bible, I would have to ask, how would we know the answer to any of these, if we don't understand the Bible, or can't even refer to things within it accurately?

I understand the Bible fine.
What don't you understand that I can help you with?
Though, I am looking for those with good insight into the book, so I am not sure why you replied if you don't have anything to say, but "I don't know."
I will never understand how someone who claims to know the ultimate truth, of God, believes they deserve respect, when they cannot distinguish it from a fairy-tale.

You know, science and logic are hard: Religion and fairy tales might be more your speed.

To continue to argue for the Hebrew invention of God is actually an insult to the very concept of a God. - Divine Insight

Okay.
Since you understand the Bible fine, could you show me where in the Bible
Eve ate the apple
...and Eve
not being able TO sin until she ate the apple
...and
the behavior of Yahwey in the OT
...and the reference to
our otherwise immortality

Will anyone respond who doesn't think "stump the dummy," is an ingenious game?

Cute.
I stepped right into that... Should have looked where I was going. :)

At least I know what I won't be getting.

If we are going by the bible account then we should be able to refer to the subsequent actions of the Creator in that same account. Therein we find a consistent record of God keeping to his word and respecting his standards of honesty. If we base our conclusion solely on that, then the answer would be that we can reasonably conclude that what he said was true.

Just to clarify, the account says that it was a fruit. It doesnt specify that the fruit was an apple. Indeed ancient Judaism taught that the fruit was the pomegranate.

Judaism taught and still teaches (as well as Eastern Orthodox Christianity) that A&E were created with the potential for immortality and not that they were already immortal. The fruit would have eventually been given to them when they were ready and which would then grant them immortality.

Well, OK, I assume everyone knows the story well enough... can we talk about the subject matter?

Like, for example, if we were originally designed for immortality, there should be some tells to that designed, perverted by mortality, and etc..

So are there any indicators God intended us to live forever, or did he just make that up, after the fact?
