Do Christians apply logic consistently?

Post by Cmass »

Do Christians engage in the same depth of reasoning, apply the same thinking skills and invite the same level of skepticism when reading claims made by the Bible as they do when reading any other claims that they encounter?

I don't think so.

As I read through page after page of this forum, I watch otherwise highly articulate, logical people (albeit with "faith problems") create more and more elaborate - often bizarre - stories to hold together utterly nonsensical claims. There is no consistency in what they chose to believe and not believe.

One bible story is just a metaphor while another is literal - it all depends upon the debate and who is debating.

It comes across as a silly, fragmented belief system in desperate search for some way to justify it's existence and find evidence that it is real.

If you were to replace "Christianity" or "Jesus" or "God" with any other subject, would you treat it with the same level of "faith"? The claims made by the bible are absolutely astounding to say the least. If I was to make such claims, you would be very skeptical. No?

Here's another interesting article. It's a review of Gary R. Habermas’s “The Resurrection Appearances of Jesus” by Bob Price.
Dr. Price not only blows gaping holes in Habermas' argument but also trashes G. Brady Lenardos' (aka Zorro1) argument as well, which by an amazing coincidence, closely resembles that of Habermas.
It's not too long, and there are lots of logical fallacies to choose from! O:)

Darn, it even blatantly tells the fallacies. Regardless, I dont thing that Zorro is going to concede. I believe he is still going to attack our character or attack the lack of opportunity to present his methodology and back up his assertion (though I have challenged him to do just this on multiple posts as have others). From what I can discern (which may be wrong) he considers our intelligence that of the picture you used on interfaith marriages. Think maybe to many GEICO commercials would have shown him even cavemen are intelligent. Oh well.

I don't remember the picture but if it took place in the late 60's or early 70's, I could have been there.
I will have to look this picture up. any hints where it is at?

I have to read the article Lotan it sounds interesting.
Sorry about the post but I got to thinking about Christianity and my objections. Then I got to thinking, what was it I liked?
This thread caused me to think about it and therefore seemed rellevent and somewhat on topic if we really had one any more.
When we ask "Do Christians apply logic consistently" it makes you look at other non- logical "isms" and beliefs.
I am for the rational and even the non-rational (feeling?) it is the irrational that should make us pause.

Confused, Goat and Lotan have raised some questions and ask for support for the claims being made. So I would not like my own personal failing and flaws to be the issue. We can always come back to them later. I don’t mind I have cherry pie for later.

same sects thread under Christianity and Apologetics. And if that picture was around the same time as your high school picture, you have issues.

I think I have seen that guy on TV. He is doing ads for gecko or what ever that insurance company is with the cartoon lizard.

Are they really still around?
It reminds me of a guy we had in here that said he was one.
Lotan you should remember I think it was before Goat was around so it has been awhile.

No, I was thinking of Jcrawford or something like that.
Maybe Mightor looked like that, I don't recall so I guess I don't mean "no", I mean I wasn't thinking of him.
