The kingdom of God.

Post by Checkpoint »

Some seem to think it is entirely future, while others give the impression they are always thinking of it as present, and to not be looking at the future in kingdom terms at all.

Jesus had much to say about the kingdom, including this:
Luke 16:

6 The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is being zealously urged into it.
So, where do you stand as to whether it is present, future, or has both a present and a future aspect?

On what basis?

According to which scriptures?

The Kingdom of God is mentioned in the OT. One example:

For the kingdom is [the LORD'S], And He is the ruler over the nations. Psalm 22:28

I believe that the Kingdom of God has been present since Jesus's day. Verses like "repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand support this notion" I also think in order to enter it you must be baptized and you must have received the Holy Spirit (John 3). However I do not think that the Kingdom of heaven, and heaven are the same thing. I believe that when we are born again (repent, be baptized, receive the Holy Spirit) we are able to enter the Kingdom of God now!

Please give a reference from the Jewish Bible where the phrase "Kingdom of God" has been literally mentioned. Right, please?
Regards

To add, please:

So, everyone here agrees that there is no mention of "Kingdom of God" in the OT Bible and or in the Jewish Bible. Right, please?
The specific term is not there, but the meaning certainly is.

Daniel 4:
2 It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me.

3 How great are his signs,
how mighty his wonders!
His kingdom is an eternal kingdom;
his dominion endures from generation to generation.

Yes, the kingdom is present now. That is why we can enter it now.

Colossians 1:
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.
13 He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son.

I would agree God's government is ruling now and actively guiding his people. We pray for the kingdom "to come" as it has not yet eliminated all wickendess and suffering from the earth.

When God's Government is the only one in existence there will at long last be peace on earth.

You only agree this ruling began in 1914, rather than it began when Jesus sat down at the right hand of God 2000 years ago.

A significant difference.

The kingdom is both now and not yet. By faith, not by sight.

Are you refering to God's government or God's kingdom?

Well I was talking about the government. Hope that clears that up.
