Romans 10:13
For, "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved."
What does call on the name mean ? How do you call on a name ?

HOLDING ONLY TO BELIEFS LIKE THIS will get one to hell faster than to heaven. WHY?

Are they WRONG? No; BUT it's ONLY ONE part of the entire "map" of how to get there.

John 3:5 requires Christian Baptism

Mt. 19:17 Demands obedience to ALL of the Commandments WHICH INCLUDE OBEDIENCE TO THE ONLY FAITH / CHURCH FOUNDED BY CHRIST; TODAY'S CC.

Romans 3: 24 Demands Grace

Rom.1: 5 "through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, 5.17 "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, "He who through faith is righteous shall live"

James chapter 2 Demands charity AND GOOD WORKS

Matt.16:18-19, and 18:18 demand obedience to the CC

So TAKE care; No ONE ANTYTHING will get anyone to heaven :D

God Bless,
Pat

My understanding is that this would be to appeal to the authority of the individual bearing that name. Paul indicated it would be more than just saying the Divine name, but appealing to thei one that name represents.

Qhile this is NOT my quote; the meaning is One MUST believe in Jesus Christ as the TRUE Son of God [Through Mary] not the SDA version of truth.

But it also implies that in knowing and acknowledging Christ; that One will Learn and follow ALL that He teaches and commands as necessary for ones salvation. NO ONE SINGLE ANYTHING will accomplish this task. It is by God's, plan and design a PROCESS.

God Bless you,

to call on Gods name you must first know what his name is.

In the Hebrew scriptures, the name is written as the four hebrew consonants Yod Het Waw Het ... no vowels were used in the divine name.
in the hebrew language it is spelled יהוה

the oldest known english translations of this name have always been Jehovah. Look at the King James bible at Psalm 83:18 and you'll see it there.

Jehovah is merely an anglicized transliteration of the Tetragrammaton, invented sometime about the year 1100 by adding the vowels in Adonai ֲדֹנָי or Lord to the vowel-less letters of this Hebrew word. Do you have any confidence that the early seventeenth century translators managed to get it right? Is it important specifically what the name is? Why?

Read in context, the Rich Man passage in Matthew 19 says something quite different.
Matthew 19:16-18
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good? Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.
18 “Which ones? he inquired.
Jesus replied, “ ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’
It is not “ALL of the Commandments that Jesus specifies but only those related to moral actions (v 18). In particular those that are missing include the ‘worship’ commandments and the ‘covet’ commandments. It is all about action. Jesus also goes out of his way to de-emphasize his own role in gaining eternal life (v 17).

Very noticeably missing is any commandment about obeying the “CC. I presume that means the Catholic Church. If you are in fact Catholic then you ought to study the Catechism.
1260 "Since Christ died for all, and since all men are in fact called to one and the same destiny, which is divine, we must hold that the Holy Spirit offers to all the possibility of being made partakers, in a way known to God, of the Paschal mystery." Every man who is ignorant of the Gospel of Christ and of his Church, but seeks the truth and does the will of God in accordance with his understanding of it, can be saved. It may be supposed that such persons would have desired Baptism explicitly if they had known its necessity.

Here is the Catholic Encyclopedia discussion of Baptism of Desire.

Also check out the Sheep and Goats story. Those who behaved charitably are rewarded. These who do not are punished. Even though those who acted righteously did not do so for religious reasons.

According to the Catholic Church, it is moral living that leads to salvation.
Dogmatism and skepticism are both, in a sense, absolute philosophies; one is certain of knowing, the other of not knowing. What philosophy should dissipate is certainty, whether of knowledge or ignorance.

considering the fact that bible writers knew and used Gods name, they were identifying a specific God...not buddah, not vishna, not Ra, not Zeus... YHWH was the God they were writng about. How they pronounced that is anyone's guess.... but the fact is that this is the real name of the God of the bible, they used it and so should anyone who wishes to be associated with the God of the bible.

We name things to distinguish them from other similar things. Things which are singular and one of a kind, do not require a name. When humanity was aware of only one ocean, it was the ocean. When they discovered that there were other oceans, then they called them Atlantic, Pacific etc. Christianity, I am told, is a monotheistic religion. Christians believe in only one God. Appropriately, they often refer to this one god as God.

Oh, and Buddhists do not consider the Buddha to be a god.

.
well then you might be surprised to learn that the bible calls Satan a god at 2 Corinthians 4:3-4

So it is even more imperative for christians to distinguish which God they are worshiping.

Thank you for that reminder. The term god can be used metaphorically, as in the expression the god of this world. Not that anything other that the One True God is a god, but that it can be seen to have a certain analogous similarities to the god. Do you think that there is any confusion in the minds of any Christians between the one true god and various so-called gods?
