Heaven, Hell or Oblivion
Post #1Given the choice which would you opt for after death and why?

Heaven doesn't seem pleasant either, the idea of having to put up with people singing God's praises for all eternity would be awful.

Living in Heaven with such an egotistical god would be my Hell.I would opt for oblivion. Hell seems a bit too tropical for my taste.Heaven doesn't seem pleasant either, the idea of having to put up with people singing God's praises for all eternity would be awful.

Who's descriptions of heaven and hell are we talking about?
I have always had dreams of when I die watching the universe's beginning and evolution through all eternity. Right now that seems like a wonderful "heaven" to me, but then again it might be the "hell" of all hells.
I would opt for oblivion just to play it safe.

Post #5Was talking with a woman lately who does past life regression therapy and hypnosis. When I said that past lives and reincarnation are not something I believe in, she pretty much said that what ever a person believes in is true for them. Well... yeah... I have said that myself, but how does that relate to heaven, hell, or oblivion? Do my beliefs decide what happens or is real for me after death?Misty wrote:Given the choice which would you opt for after death and why?

Post #6And if it turned out that Universal Reconciliation were the case? Presumably in that case God is not very egotistical after all.joeyknuccione wrote:Give me Hell, as most of my friends'll be there.Misty wrote:Given the choice which would you opt for after death and why?

Personally I will take whatever. If there is no god then I will most probably be obliterated, and won't ever know it. If the most fundamentalist views of Christianity or Islam are accurate, I'll be burning in Hell with most of humanity, and because my personal views of God are just that incredibly unfalsifiable I'll be giving a big middle finger to said deity and telling it I believe in something greater than it is anyways. If a less egotistical version of the Christian god exists then I suspect I would end up obliterated or in heaven. If the first it's back to the same thing as if God does not exist and if the second then I would still believe in my personal view of God so long as the Christian version allowed it, and probably would not longer be able to cognitively care if it did not.
If my personal view of God is correct then all three are still on the table for me and everyone else, I have no personal control over which I end up in, and I trust that wherever I end up (if anywhere) it was necessary, so I'm not going to worry about it.
Unless indicated otherwise what I say is opinion. (Kudos to Zzyzx for this signature).

What do you mean by "no personal control"?Chaosborders wrote:If my personal view of God is correct then all three are still on the table for me and everyone else, I have no personal control over which I end up in, and I trust that wherever I end up (if anywhere) it was necessary, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Meaning I believe I will end up wherever God wills me to end up, and that I have no way of truly knowing where that will be ahead of time.Crazy Ivan wrote:What do you mean by "no personal control"?Chaosborders wrote:If my personal view of God is correct then all three are still on the table for me and everyone else, I have no personal control over which I end up in, and I trust that wherever I end up (if anywhere) it was necessary, so I'm not going to worry about it.

I pick Heaven, but my view of it does not contain golden streets and pearly gates, but rather a spiritual realm of peace and love that we have yet to experience...A oneness with our creator and all of creation.

Post #10Amen. Where is heaven. Heaven is everywhere but the most important place heaven is; it is with in us. You learn this and you shall know peace this world willnever know.
Colossians 3:
15And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
(Amp) 15And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ's] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].
