Switch off email signatures and the lists people claim to be

Post by Wootah »

hi there

Is it possible to switch off email signatures and the lists people claim to belong to?

None of it seems relevant to my experience and it takes up dowload time and extra reading time to read posts.

Thanks,

Mat

Way down at the bottom of the page you will find a link labeled 'Lo-Fi version'. This turns off a lot of things - maybe more than you want. 'Full version' in the same location puts it all back on again.
Dogmatism and skepticism are both, in a sense, absolute philosophies; one is certain of knowing, the other of not knowing. What philosophy should dissipate is certainty, whether of knowledge or ignorance.

It is just a bit of text. Are you using a dial-up modem?

Lo-Fi is probably your best bet.

I can't think of any other non-complicated answer.

To me it's a matter of screen clutter. Can't we limited the number of "user groups" displayed to four or five, leaving a check box which could be used to display any additional user groups?

There's no way to turn off the usergoups. But you can turn off the signatures here.

I'll see if I can add the ability to turn off usergroups as well.

OK, got it coded.

Go to Profile / Profile / Profile Settings / Reading.

Check "No" for Display usergroups.

Screen clutter is quite a different issue from download speed. The best solution for that would be to display no more group names than can fit beside the post. But that amount of programming, probably client side using JQuery, would be too much to ask.

Reasons
* screen clutter
* creates prejudice - inane signatures and people in groups that they clearly aren't just bugs me and my experience of the site.
* I just want to discuss the posts not the people and not the labels.

Can I say it is a whole lot better.
