What so many people fail to realize is that there are two (2) dynamics going on here which on the surface seem unrelated which is our biggest mistake
World Oil Reserves
1,650,585,140,000 barrels
47 years of oil left
(at current consumption levels)
World Oil Statistics - Worldometer (worldometers.info)
This means, at current consumption all the known oil reserves will be sucked up and burned in 47 years.
Which means that the world’s major energy source will not be able to meet demand in 20+/- years.
If the world acts now to gradually switch from oil to renewables the transition will a peaceful one. If we do not do this, a world global fight will occur to control what oil is left. This will lead to WW3 which in itself will burn up what is left.
The term Armageddon comes to mind.
used in a generic sense to refer to any end of the world scenario.
Armageddon - Wikipedia
This may not concern you because you will not be around then; but your grandchildren will !!
Fighting climate change and discovering new renewable energy sources are fighting to achieve the same thing. The survival of the human race.

Post #21Okay. If enough people believed this, then there will be no solution.
In what way can people prepare the disruption?People should prepare for disruption that will last for many years to come.

Post #22In my opinion there are too many problems for civilization to survive in its present form. Do people really think we can solve global warming and move on to 2050 and beyond? Continue to destroy the natural world, pollute everything, plunder the earth's resources?
Most can't. Those who can should learn how to live simply. In what way can people prepare for the disruption?

Some don't care either way.
That may indeed be unstoppable, but why point fingers at those [such as Elon Musk] who have observed the same thing and have at least made the effort to plan ahead and secure some kind of hope in the continuation of the human specie?
If one cannot save others, why should one doom oneself alongside those others, if one can prevent that?
If one factors in the Exponential, we can understand that literally between going to sleep and waking up, the world we went to sleep in is not the same one we awaken to. A lot can happen in 24 hours. In my opinion there are too many problems for civilization to survive in its present form.
Some do. Many are focused on Jesus returning as their solution.Do people really think we can solve global warming and move on to 2050 and beyond?

Re the earths' resources we have barely scratched the surface. The way those resources have been used is the crux of the matter.Continue to destroy the natural world, pollute everything, plunder the earth's resources?

Post #24Yes, civilization needs to be restructured so there is almost no waste. But how long would this take and how long have we got? At the moment and for a while to come oil is the only game in town. The Thunbergers are telling us to leave oil in the ground. Fine. But if we do civilization will collapse.William wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 2:27 pmRe the earths' resources we have barely scratched the surface. Post #27"Time is running out" for whom? As I said. Some folk got pro-active and invested in at least giving themselves a chance, regardless of the materialist who didn't or the 2.22 billion Christians who are waiting on Jesus returning to 'put things right'. Perhaps time is running out for those ones who invested their hope in those things.
But time is not running out for everyone.

Post #28Civilization cannot be reconstructed in the short timeframe we have been given. There will need to be dramatic changes. It seems we will be forced to revert to a simpler way of life.William wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 10:54 am"Time is running out" for whom? As I said. That doesn't matter. My argument is that 'all is not lost' because there are people occupied in conserving what can be conserved in the face of the event on the horizon which signifies at least the extinction of the majority of humans and their cultures.Civilization cannot be reconstructed in the short timeframe we have been given.
