Did the apostles disobey Jesus' command in Matthew 10:5? “These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them saying, go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not.”
On the face, there appear to be several contradictions concerning this matter in Acts 8.
Acts 8:25, “And they (Philip and Simon) when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans."
The early church often confused Philip the Evangelist with Philip the Apostle. The Philip spoken of in Acts 8:5-8, is not the apostle Philip.
This Philip’s name does not occur in the Gospels, but his story is told in the Book of Acts. He was one of the seven deacons, said to be men of good repute, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom (Acts 6:2.)
Simon here in Acts 8:25, is not Simon Peter, but Simon Magus, a sorcerer at Samaria, with great power and influence among the people Acts 8:9-13. He came to believe as the result of Philip’s preaching there, although the true nature of his faith is not clear, as his subsequent actions reveal.
So, when all the details are laid out, the apostles had not disobeyed the Lord.
Did the apostles disobay Jesus?

Re: Did the apostles disobay Jesus?
Post #2That was before Jesus was crucified. After crucifixion the situation was different and Jesus said:placebofactor wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:03 pm Did the apostles disobey Jesus' command in Matthew 10:5? “These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them saying, go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not.”

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teach-ing them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matt. 28:19-20
So, if they went to other nations to preach, they did not disobey Jesus.
