A new heaven and a new earth?

There have been many who have expressed their private opinions and interpretations of scripture such as the following quoted:

“What about the scriptures that speak about a "new earth"?

Not everything in the bible is meant to be taken literally. Let's take a scripture such as

PSALMS 96:11 Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice!

Many would recognize that the scripture is not speaking about happy stars and rejoicing ground; the literal planet earth cannot feel or express emotions such as joy or sadness. Even though we see the word "EARTH" we can understand it to mean "people" on the earth. In a similar way the word "earth" as found in scriptures such as 2 Peter 3:13 and Revelation 21:1 refers to the PEOPLE or human society made up of people.

When God kills off wicked people he will be getting rid of the present wicked society. And when the "meek" inherit the earth, there will be a "new" human society of righteous people living on this our planet" and this is symbolically what is being referred to as the "new earth”"


My response: Has anyone ever considered the following concept’s?

First let us examine the concept of what we may call “graduated intelligences”. Have you considered or ever thought of this possibility? When we observe all the creation of God we see creation at several levels. First the organizing of the elements, next the placement of plant life (the next level). Next wee see the placement of ocean life, and all animals. Next we see the crowning phase of placing man who was verily created in the image of God himself. For the scriptures verily testify that we are all the “spirit offspring” of heavenly parents for God is indeed the Father of our spirit bodies.

Is there any evidence from the Bible that the earth and the elements thereof have a level of intelligence that makes them capable of obeying a command?


2 Peter 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Consider the following comment of the lord:

Mark 4:37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.


Consider also the power of God’s authorized servants: Do not the elements arsoserve the Lord and his authorized servants?

Exodus 10:19 And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.

Exodus 14:21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

Also have you considered the point that the earth has the very power itself to “mourn” defiled, or or have such feelings to “be moved exceedingly” as shown in the following? How can the moon be “confounded” or the Sun “ashamed”?

Isaiah 24:4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.

5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.


19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, “the earth is moved exceedingly”O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.


23 hen the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.


As the Prophet Jeremiah exclaimed “O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD” if it had not power to hear or respond?
Jeremiah 22:29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.

Isaiah 14:7m The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.

May I ask how the earth “mourneth and languisheth if it had not the living power to do so?

Isaiah 33:9 The earth mourneth and languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed and hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.

How about the following found below in Proverbs?

Proverbs 30: 21 For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:

How can the following verse exist without the elements having the intelligence and feeling without certain living level of intelligence?“the whole earth is full of his glory

Isaiah 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

Ask your selves how the earth could ”help the woman” and “open her mouth to swallow up the flood”?

Revelation 12:16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

Have you carefully considered the following example of Lot and Abraham?

Genesis 13:7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
