Apatheism in that sense is technically a form of weak agnostic atheism. But yes, it is likely an appropriate label.Lucia wrote:Sometimes non theists go so far in their effort to separate themselves from religious rituals that they accidentally begin encouraging (counter)rituals. However, in this case, I doubt many of them were taking the "debaptism" seriously... or at least I hope they weren't...
I find the statement "I was born atheist and they forced me to become catholic" weird. I've heard people say they were born christian/jewish/etc, but never heard anyone say they were born atheist. If anything, I'd say we're all born apatheists.

More ammo for the Christians' "Atheism is a religion" argument.

Silly ? Yes.
But no sillier than thinking water has some magical power to cleanse the soul.
It's all about symbolism and belief.
If people want to splash water on them, be dunked in it, whatever, to think it does something grand and/or is symbolic, have at it.
Just don't expect others to come along and not do the opposite (or even similar) to prove a point.

I really don't see why so many here regard it as going to far. They are trying to make a statement and for statements you use symbols.
It doesn't go to far. They don't attack any specific religion just something they think is wrong about religious indoctrination in general. If somebody feels personally hurt because they ridicule the baptism water diving a little that is really that ones fault. If one doesn't understand a symbol as a symbol, I don't think the rest of the population is obligated to keep quite and not say anything out loud.
