Permanent daylight saving time in the USA

A lot of talk and voting about this:
https://www.yahoo.com/news/permanent-da ... 53819.html

The article points out: ""caused great inconvenience and in some cases hazard," said Sen. Bob Dole in 1974 as he spoke in favor of undoing the change."
And: "Another senator expressed concerns about schoolchildren and citizens being hurt or killed in accidents during the morning."
And: " “People didn’t like waking up in the mornings in the dark, or sending their children to school in dark,” Prerau said."
Meanwhile, in Russia: "According to BBC reporting, the time change created stress and health issues, particularly for northern Russian residents where mornings would remain dark for long periods of time during winter. "

For discussion:
Are these 'complaints' simply people who may have been stubborn and adverse to change?
Are these issues something that can be overcome/lessened over time as people get used to the change?
Or are these issues apt and good reason not to make the change?
Have a great, potentially godless, day!

No.

DST causes a lot of car accidents in the "Spring Forward" when people have to get up an hour earlier.

https://www.phillypilaw.com/2021/03/15/ ... ving-time/
The study analyzed 20 years of data and found that DST is responsible for around 28 deaths each year. More importantly, the study found that these accident rates often decreased after the week of DST. Additionally, there was virtually no impact during the time change in November.

Call me when 28 kids get snatched and murdered because it's slightly dark when they go to school.

Or they could, you know, make school start an hour later without affecting anybody else.

Start an hour later? I think the kids would only go for that if school ends at the same time. I propose we shorten math and English class times so that they can get out at same time despite starting an hour later. We can just "cancel" the school teachers that don't agree. #Shorter school hours #shorter math class

You can shorten all classes and give slightly more homework.

Instead of making it permanent, do away with it. Most of Arizona does without DST and survives.

This sums it up quite nicely:

I personally like the way we do things now.

But, if we're going to make a change, it seems evident to me that we should just stay on standard time year round. It's called standard time for a reason.
