California city washes away BLM mural after Trump supporter requests ‘MAGA 2020’ display

Redwood City in San Francisco’s Bay Area quietly scrubbed away its Black Lives Matter mural from a city street after a resident asked to paint a similar “MAGA 2020” on the same road, according to a local news report.

Who knew this would be a solution to the writing about the marxist organization BLM on our streets.

Just stand up and speak out.

Both the BLM painting and the MAGA2020 are nothing but graffiti. Both should be washed away.

I support BLM as well. Unconditionally.

However, I also recognise that no matter how obvious the "should" in question, all dictums with a should - in other words, telling people what they should do - are fundamentally equally political.

The idea that we "should" support equality is politically equal to the idea that we "should" deport people because they weren't born here.

If the BLM activist gets his mural on public property, so too should the Trump supporter or even the neo-Nazi. The reason is that it's not the government's place to take sides, even the side of good. If people aren't good then the laws won't be good and that's the end of it. The government is an extension of the will of the people, not their moral guardian, their big brother, or their fairy godmother. The idea that you can pull a good rabbit out of an evil hat and have it sit on everyone's evil head and make them good when they never were good is the more preposterous fairy-tale, and it's dangerous. You can want a government to be detached from the will of the people and wish that it'll make the world better, but in reality it will only remove the sole stopgap preventing a government from being a horrible tyranny.

The world needs to change, but the people need to make it change. Bottom up. Not top-down.

It's not the government's place to be anything but a mirror. If we don't like what we see, we can change it.

If we demand that our mirror only reflects the good parts of us, we're delusional and we probably won't change.

What is the difference between a mural and graffiti - one is legal the other isn't.
The murals were not intended to be there but for a short period of time. So they've served their purpose - watching them away is expected.

Back in the Nixon administration, the president tried to reconcile differing groups by having a meeting that included both black people and bigots. He really thought that was being fair. It's that city's thinking turned inside out.
