Not-so-strange bed fellows?

Religion these days is, much of the time, a different form of politics:
leaders are elected
churches tell their members how to vote
religion influences society, many times, through legalities
more popular religions have money, using it to promote their own agendas
religions control the lives of people

And on and on.

Why do so many believers seem to get upset when their religion is compared to politics? They are so similar it's hard to tell them apart sometimes.

Is this one of those, "guns don't kill people, people kill people" things? Like, when the Bible commands to "leave nothing alive that breathes" or "stone her to death with stones," it's not the Bible's fault when someone actually does it?

There is an important difference. Politics does not have The 10 Commandments or The Golden Rule. On the contrary, politics is known for exploiting religious feelings, as in Adolf Hitler and others. It's the politics that wages war and does the corrupt, not the word of God! Remember! :!:
The bible does indeed corrupt. In early Christianity, the bible called people to murder and kill (and they did). But blaming the bible only goes so far. Sure, the bible, itself, is just a book and, as such, the worst it really does it collect dust and, when printed, uses trees which are much more valued, to me, in cleaning the air than teaching people to believe in something they'll never find outside their own mind. It doesn't physically 'harm' anyone. It's the people that do. But, if the bible is the word of God - inspired by him - he's ultimately responsible for the harm. Fact is, if he's the creator of everything, he's responsible for everything.

Politics and religion were both created by people as a means to govern and thus, control, while taking the money from individuals who (at least when it comes to religion) chooses to be controlled by it.

When it comes to exploiting, in the USA, politics (republicans specifically) and religion are bed fellows, like it or not.
But it should also be noted that, throughout history, religions (Christianity included) exploiting people as well.

So not matter what kind of 'happy happy good good' brush you want to use, you can't whitewash the similarities between the two, especially when you consider world history.
