Are there any scientists that believe in Evolution?

Post by Nyril »

Seeing Osteng's list of scientists that support ID/Creationism, I thought I was compelled by law to post the list of Steves. There's 521. The entire idea is that if a list of Doctors posted by Creationists is important in the debate, certainly a list of scientists that believe in evolution must be as well. As such qualifications are hard to establish, this specific list requires that the person believe in evolution, be a doctor of some sort, and that they be named Steve, or some variation of Steve.

Since I can assume nobody's going to make to the bottom, the entire point of the exercise is to see that if you can say "So what?" To my list, why should I care about yours?

Because otseng's post was not an argument from authority, but rather was an answer to a question dangerdan posed about whether or not there were credible biologists, paleontologists, etc who support creationism/id. Otseng was simply showing that there were scientists from the above mentioned fields who did subscribe to said theory. Whether or not they are credible could possibly be debated, but they do in fact exist.

Can someone say amen?! O:)

I was going to suggest if anyone wants to debate the credibility of the Bible believing scientists to go ahead and create a separate thread. But, upon further thought, what's the point? It would be a fruitless exercise.

The main points we should be debating on C vs E are the topics themselves. Though we haved scratched the surface on many C vs E issues, there are still a ton of things that still can be discussed. Debating about whether Duane Gish or any other creationist is credible would add nothing to the main issue at hand.

I hope we can all go beyond examining the people behind the theories and rather look at the theories themselves. I realize though that it is much easier to attack people rather than to do careful research and critically analyze the theories. But, this is what I hope we can all strive to achieve on this forum.

So, I guess the conclusion is that there are lots of folks who believe lots of things. We can make lots of lists. It's an interesting question, though, about scientists who favor evolution or creation. I'm not sure it tells us anything, though. The question isn't who believes this or that, but what the data are, and how we should best interpret the data. Just as many people can believe many things, many people can be wrong. Let's make up our own minds, based on the relevant data. Let's see what the creationists/IDers say, what the evolutionists say, and look at their data, and evaluate it.

Err, yes, obviously any lists do not prove or disprove any specific arguments on their own right. They only serve as a barometer to scientific opinion. So when I was researching the credibility of Duane Gish on the other thread, it was because I wished to investigate whether it would be fit to call him a “world leading biologists or paleontologist”. After all, I was merely asking if Otseng could perhaps cite a few examples of world leading biologist or paleontologist (or something like these fields) that believed in “creationism” as opposed to evolution.
