Cristians in the ecology movement?

Is the future of mankind endangered if we don't take care of the earth. Or does God have a different plan?

I believe that on a small scale, a complete lack of environmental care is dangerous. For example, unchecked, concentrated air pollution will certainly lead to respiratory system-related deaths. But I think we can trust God to keep a completely catastrophic event from occurring before the end of time because:
The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma [of Noah's sacrifice after the Flood] and said in his heart: "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.

"As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease" (Genesis 8:20-22, NIV)
