I think that it is wrong to kill sentient beings and to cause them to suffer. Please go vegan. Thank you. Please see: https://www.carnismdebunked.com and https://www.adaptt.org/about/the-kill-counter.html

I find nothing wrong with using animals for food when it comes to things like milk, eggs, etc so long as it's not factory farming.
I have cut out a lot of meat from my diet. But being from the midwest, where 'meat is king' in many places, it's hard to change.
But I'm trying to be more vegetarian, but I likely won't ever be vegan.

Post #3I understand your position. I don't force anyone to go vegan, I simply ask them to.Menotu wrote:Compassionist wrote: I think that it is wrong to kill sentient beings and to cause them to suffer. Please go vegan. Thank you. Post #4Plants are sentient in my opinion. Quite literally chilli is a response to make a plant less palatable, or thorns or spikes are another example.Compassionist wrote: I think that it is wrong to kill sentient beings and to cause them to suffer. Post #5Plants don't have a brain and a nervous system. How could plants be sentient? Plants are certainly alive. I would prefer to photosynthesise instead of eating anything but our technology is not advanced enough to genetically engineer all organisms to become photosynthetic.Wootah wrote:Plants are sentient in my opinion. Post #6However, plants do respond when they are attacked and eaten, and send signals to other nearby plants that prompt them to start their defenses as well.Compassionist wrote:Plants don't have a brain and a nervous system. Post #7That is true. If I ever manage to genetically engineer myself to become photosynthetic, I will stop eating plants. I am glad you have found a cause, greater than yourself, to serve to your best ability. My suspicion is that such motivation is conducive to happiness. I am even more glad that it is an ethical cause, to be decided according to ethical criteria. If all of humanity argued for their ethics, well, I dare say the whole of humanity might be a good deal happier, and a good deal more ethical.
But I cannot join you in this particular ethical campaign, for the reasons I outlined on your other vegan thread.
Nevertheless, best wishes, 2RM.

Seems unnatural to me personally.
(For an attempt at a giggle)
A Jehovahs Witness, a runner and a vegan walk in to a bar... I only knew that because they told us all upon entering.
I have no issue with anyone being a vegan by the way.
You can give a man a fish and he will be fed for a day, or you can teach a man to pray for fish and he will starve to death.

Don't know if you're a Christian or not, but in considering Genesis 1:28 where god gives mankind the right to rule over various animals
Genesis 1:27-28
27 So God created humans in his own image. He created them to be like himself.[h] He created them male and female. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Have many children. Fill the earth and take control of it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the air. Rule over every living thing that moves on the earth.
I see no need to rule over these animals unless it's to use them as food. And having sanctioned the use of other animals for food I see no reason not to use them as such.
