I'd rather a teen experience sex themselves with another teen before I show them porn where all types of scenarios are portrayed, including incest, swinging, bestiality, etc.
Because what, teens are going to start copulating with mom and dad and the family dog?
Sounds like the plot of a Chick tract!

AgnosticBoy wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2020 5:08 pm Anecdotally, I would say porn should be kept away from those under the age of 18 and those immature. I'm saying this because kids are very naive and don't know the difference between acting/fantasy/fetishes vs. sexual behavior in the real world (not staged, occurring through normal social interaction/relationships, etc).
You don't think that acting, fantasy, and fetishes take place in real-world sexual situations? Then here's an eye opener: They do. In fact, most sex therapists will sometimes encourage them to one degree or another.
In a lot of cases it does not occur in the ways portrayed in pornography.
But in any way that's harmful? Please elaborate. Obviously you're more familiar with porn than I am.

If you expect to just walk up to a woman and expect her to be willing to do any sexual act with you then you going to be in for a big surprise.
Why would anyone expect such a thing? Is that the way it happens in porn? It's certainly something I've never seen.
Heck I've seen documentaries about pornography and many women don't really enjoy certain sexual acts but instead they are paid to act as if they enjoyed it. If only people know more about these women behind the scenes instead of just going by the pornographic clip.
So what? Think everyone in commercials really enjoys the products they're hawking? Like most other jobs, porn is just that---a job. Only difference is that most often it's a let's-pretend-we-like-it job.

Theoretically, it's possible, and that's more true the more naive you are.

And theoretically, it's possible that people will give up a normal life, go into seclusion, and devote their whole being to some religious fanaticism. OH! that's right, it's not theoretical at all.
Even some adults are willing to try some of the things that they see in pornographic videos.
And good for them. Right? Or is everything done in porn really, really despicable?

AgnosticBoy wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2020 5:08 pmAn adult can handle porn better because they already have an understanding of sex and have most likely experienced it in a normal real life setting.
So, what's to handle?
Separating fantasy from real world. And also being better able to control their hormones. I suppose someone who's never have sex nor have seen a naked woman would more easily become a hooked on porn compared to a mature adult.
Porn isn't fantasy. Believe it or not, but from what I've read all the porn I've ever seen actually happens in real life. I once knew a girl in high school who, it was said, could tuck her panties away in a place not to be mentioned on D. C. & R. Since then I typed in just such an act on a search engine, and guess what . . . . yup, there it was on some porno site.

AgnosticBoy wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2020 5:08 pmBut then again I've read about porn addictions and many Christians talk about the power of "lust" wrecking their marriages. So perhaps it's only good in moderation.
Like most other endeavors, sometimes a behavior can get out of control and become an addiction, such as stuffing dead animals, and sucking one's thumb, which happen to be actual addictions. And, there's no denying that porn, too, can become addictive, but the question is, to what extent and degree? Does its down side outweigh is up side?

Put in perspective, people find a whole lot of good in porn

Try this article...
Research in support of the link between pornography and erectile dysfunction argues that porn can desensitize sexual response. A 2016 article argues that more young men are seeking help for ED, and that this could be due to the desensitizing effects of so-called “hardcore” pornography.

Drawing upon case studies and a review of previous research, the article argues that pornography may decrease men’s satisfaction with their own bodies, triggering anxiety during sex.

Men who view pornography may need to progressively increase sexual stimulation to feel and remain aroused.

The use of pornography might change the way the brain reacts to arousal, making a man less likely to feel aroused by a real-life partner.
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articl ... -it-happen
I hope you read the part where it says,

"The research on porn-induced erectile dysfunction is mixed, with some studies supporting this connection and others arguing that pornography might actually help with."

You stated that I'm more experienced with porn than you are but have you considered that perhaps I'm more experienced with girls outside of the context of porn, as well?

It seems that you're disagreeing with my view that porn should be kept out of the reach of kids, so I suppose that you okay with allowing young kids watch porn.

The harm is that in a lot of cases you end up not being able to get a real woman. The remedy to that is to find out how sexual encounters happen in the real world and being willing to follow it.

Kids are “curious, and that’s how they learn about the world,” says clinical psychologist Dr. Samantha Miller, “but they’re also wired to mimic.” Remember—kids aren’t born knowing what sex is; if they’re aping it, they’ve been exposed to it. The exposure might be to pornography, which could indicate neglect, notes Dr. Miller; or it could be exposure to actual sex, or even abuse. A child who acts out sexually doesn’t really understand the behaviors as sex, which is why, if reinforced, they can lead to an unhealthy relationship with sex, their bodies, and the bodies of others that may be very damaging emotionally later on.

Nope, because it's irrelevant.
It seems that you're disagreeing with my view that porn should be kept out of the reach of kids,
In as much as "The average age at which a child first sees porn online is 11, or 5th grade" it's pretty much a moot point.
so I suppose that you okay with allowing young kids watch porn.
Because "The average age at which a child first sees porn online is 11, or 5th grade" and no harm has been reported that I'm aware of, it appears harmless enough. However, I do vote for keeping violent images, including those in video games, from children. Images for which there is a correlation with violent behavior.
The harm is that in a lot of cases you end up not being able to get a real woman.
I await your evidence.

Neither is my experience with porn relevant but you brought it up anyway.

How is behavior that kids do often without parental knowledge or consent, a way to establish what's harmful and what's not? A lot of teens might also smoke and vape, does that make vaping right or not harmful?

So now, stop dodging and spell out your standards clearly. Are you okay with kids viewing porn?

"Not reported" does not mean there's no harm. Here's one interesting article from a government site:
Exposure to pornography
In Australia, just under half (44%) of children aged 9-16 surveyed had encountered sexual images in the last month. Of these, 16% had seen images of someone having sex and 17% of someone's genitals.

Younger children (those aged 9-12) are particularly likely to be distressed or upset by pornography.

Parents tend to overestimate exposure to pornography for younger children and underestimate the extent of exposure for older children.

The extent and frequency of viewing pornography differs by gender, with males more likely to deliberately seek out pornography and to do so frequently.

Attitudes and responses to exposure also vary by gender, with females having more negative views and responses such as shock or distress compared to males, particularly in older teens, who are more likely to experience pornography as amusing, arousing or exciting.

The effects of exposure
In the absence of other information, pornography can be the main source of a young person's sex education.

The use of pornography by adolescents is associated with stronger permissive sexual attitudes (e.g., premarital sex, casual sex). There is some evidence that exposure to pornography can increase the likelihood of earlier first-time sexual experience, particularly for those adolescents who consume pornography more frequently.

Pornography can influence a young person's expectations about sex, for example what young men expect their partners to do and vice versa. It can shape sexual practices, with studies finding that young people may try performing common sexual acts seen in dominant hetero pornography such as:

- anal intercourse;
- facial ejaculation;
- sex with multiple partners; and
- deep fellatio.

Pornography is also associated with unsafe sexual health practices such as not using condoms and unsafe anal and vaginal sex.

Gaps between expectations and reality can produce "sexual uncertainty" about sexual beliefs and values and may also be related to sexual dissatisfaction, anxiety and fear. The content of pornography may reinforce double standards of an active male sexuality and passive female receptacle.

I've already provided evidence and I'm not obligated to present it to your liking. I await your evidence that it is not harmful at all for kids to be exposed to porn.

It is well established that pornography is most popular among Republican states:

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog ... ornography

Why Conservatives Spend More on Pornography

"The biggest consumer of Internet pornography {by state} was Utah ... States that banned gay marriage had 11 percent more porn subscribers ... In addition to the conservative states' avid consumption of Internet pornography, there have been numerous examples of prominent conservative politicians and public figures whose lofty statement of values in sexual matters was cruelly undercut by their own actions: Larry Craig; Newt Gingrich; Mark Foley, Jimmy Swaggart; Bob Livingston, Henry Hyde, Ted Haggard, and Bob Packwood, among scores of less recognizable names ... Many words have been used to explain the apparent contradiction between ideals and practices. Hypocrisy is the obvious one. ''

• • • • • •

Porn in the USA: Conservatives are biggest consumers

https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn ... consumers/

'' Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.

“Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by"

more: https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... _on_Google

All studies on the subject clearly prove it is conservatives who profess to be good, moral Christians who are more inclined to use pornography.

I do not dispute the claims that pornography use is a sign of mental sickness although it would be preferable for medical professions to make that determination. However, it is no secret that people inclined towards the right wing point of view that use it more than anyone else.

Most anything can be 'bad' if it's used that way. As with EVERYTHING that has to do with humanity, it's not the item but how PEOPLE use it.

Generally speaking.
If you over eat, you can get fat, can have heart problems, loose energy, etc. That's typically considered 'bad'.
Personally, I don't care if someone does something that causes bad things (aka harm) to them. That's their business and they're free to do it if they want.
