A divinly inspired thought?

Post by ThePainefulTruth »

“I believe in the sun even though it is slow in rising.
I believe in you without realizing.
I believe in rain though there are no clouds in the sky.
I believe in Truth even though people lie.
I believe in peace though sometimes I am violent.
I believe in God even though He is silent.

The above 6 lines started appearing on the Internet c. July 2002 (as best as I can determine) as an appropriately anonymous expansion/editing of the following three anonymous lines written on the wall of a basement in Cologne Germany where Jews hid from the NAZIs.

“I believe in the sun even when it is not shining.
I believe in love even when feeling it not.
I believe in God even when he is silent.
-Unknown

Readings in Modern Jewish History: From the American Revolution to the Present, p. 232. Eliezer L. Erhmann, ed.

Though I don't believe in divine inspiration (by divine intent), I believe this is the closest thing to it--a profound poetic thought that springs from our 13 billion years in development, gift of self-awareness.

Substitute Zeus for God in that snippet and it still works.
