United States slowly becoming Socialist.

I have come to the following conclusion....

A Democracy was never meant to last. It becomes on the decline when citizens realize they can vote themselves benefits from the public treasury in which they do not deposit.

That time is now. A startling image that won't soon leave me is John Kerry saying he's going to raise taxes on the top 1% and everyone cheering; they basically believe that the rich can pay for their things. Unfortunately for them, the following problem occurs.

There are few people that have what is known as "recreation money". Recreation money is excess money that people buy pleasures with. Take my Uncle, a stock broker. He made over 4.2 million dollars last year (That's after taxes, mind you. Before, it was closer to 8 ) and spends thousands everywhere he goes. He recently bought land in Taos, New Mexico. A small, 2-acre plot of land for a "getaway", costing him almost $335,000.

That is what is known as "recreation money".

(I only know this because my father's an attorney, and drafted the contracts needed).

Getting back on topic, when the top 1% of the economy is taxed higher and higher, you lose the money that was originally intented to go back into the economy. You also lose money that goes into businesses (It was once said that the business of America is business. What happens when you lose that?), and ergo, the businesses lose profit.

So who gains from this? Actually, in the long run, noone.

I recall a friend of mine saying medical coverage is a right, not a priveledge. Wrong. It is not a right. It is only provided to you because you live in a country where people believe their bills should be paid by people more productive than themselves. I say this as a general statement, as I support health care.

The real problem with all of this, is that the only people that can see this are the one's not gaining at the current time. Also, being the top 1%, they have a very small voice. Around 1% of it, actually.

Any thoughts? (If you are not from the United States and have nothing but derrogatory comments, please keep them to yourself. I'm trying to keep this as intellectual as possible).

Alright, so my question is, was the statement I made previously (A Democracy was never meant to last. It becomes on the decline when citizens realize they can vote themselves benefits from the public treasury in which they do not deposit.) correct?

Is it happening in America?

We should take care of each other. Most want to have meaning, purpose, housing, food and clothing(optional). If you have way more then you will ever need. Then most likely some one is going with out. A just society works to make sure some don't go with out everything. Humany sympathy and the structures needed to cary out real caring is not socialism kicking down the door of Democracy. the only welfare state that is our down fall is the wefare state for corporate American at the expense of every one else.
Dont you just love Europe ?
These evil secular Europeans take care of eachother, whiles the Loving Christians of United States let thousands men woman and children starve... Love the Irony Baby.

I thought America was a "secular nation" founded NOT by Christians in any way.

Isn't that what the ACLU - the unchallenged masters of all that represents freedom - say over and over again?

Isn't there a seperation of church and state?

Obviously far more godless secularists drive by the suffering poor that the Salvation Army has been forced by the ACLU not to help.

How many atheists hospitals have been founded in the good ol' USA?

Any godless-followers start up any soup kitchens?

Love the ignorant and bigoted view you got baby.

No, most people where Christians, different branches, yes, but still Christians in does days.
Isn't that what the ACLU - the unchallenged masters of all that represents freedom - say over and over again?
They do ?
Isn't there a seperation of church and state?
I would say the U.S is for now an theocracy, if you know what that is.
Obviously far more godless secularists drive by the suffering poor that the Salvation Army has been forced by the ACLU not to help.
I would not know.

You seem ignorant about the fact that "atheists" are not an organized group with doctine, such as Creationist, Catholics and so forth. Atheism only defines that you do not believe in a God or gods. That is all, after that, you may be Fascist, Communist, Republican or a Moron, no difference. Its like me liking Pie, you liking IceCream. This has nothing to do with anything else, does it ?
Any godless-followers start up any soup kitchens?
Most likely. Its actually so improbable that i doubt you would bet money on your side. Personally i helped out in the soup kitchen, and not only that. been involved in helping a shelter-home build up in Britain. And i am godless......
Love the ignorant and bigoted view you got baby.
Which one? I dont see it. Nor do i understand your answers. I simply pointed out that there is less/close-to-none poverty in Europe (and the EU is over 150 million more people) then in the U.S, whom claims to be so God loving and caring.

But i have no doubt you will tell me why.

I was raised a Xian even sought my Jewish roots. I don't take the Bible literally. there are many Christian views and I am not sure any are "the" right one. The same goes for Islam and Judaism. This country was based on the enlightment and a bunch of rich kids that wanted there own place. And lets not forget all the blood shed. We don't have all the answers.
Who cares if we are socialist It cant hurt that bad. The word is just used to ignore alternative ways of responding. we could use a little more socialism we are running out of room and native americans to kill and rob.

You make it seem as though all Americans are stupid and conservative Christians, and everything about America is bad.

What would you propose I do, as a Christian in America?

Go help feed people at a volunteer shelter?
Help the homeless find jobs?

What makes you think I don't already do these things?

I would really appreciate you dropping your biased stereotypes of US citizens, as you are confusing most people with a small minority.

How would you feel if i based my entire opinion of the Swedish people on an encounter with one hopelessly biased, self-proclaimed intellectual (who also happened to be Swedish) I met on a forum?

Generalisation, it is.
What would you propose I do, as a Christian in America?
Change.
Go help feed people at a volunteer shelter?
Help the homeless find jobs?
One option.
What makes you think I don't already do these things?
I have not said otherwise.
I would really appreciate you dropping your biased stereotypes of US citizens, as you are confusing most people with a small minority.
Minority?

If you honestly do not understand your bias, then I doubt an explanation would do any good.
