Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Post by JehovahsWitness »

Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse mentioned in the book of Revelation (chapter 6) represent Jesus (first) and the present world conditions (horsemen 2 through 4) particularly in evidence since 1914

What, do you think the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are and why?

My question really is directed to those that believe that the book of Revelation does have some kind of spiritual meaning.

Yep - we can agree on this trivial detail. We disagree on using this as a basis for explaining the error in Christ's prediction. As for taking a literal or a figurative interpretation, one can never do so with complete certainty. The final fate of planet earth is better explained by modern science than biblical impressions.

The horsemen EXPLAINED [Revelation]

With the recent bombing and terrorist attacks it seems these horsemen are riding faster than ever!

JESUS CHRIST: [The rider of the white horse] White signifies purity and holiness in the bible and so the only positive horserider of the four is the first. The rider is wearing a crown, representing royalty. Thus the holy king riding the first horse is none other than Jesus Christ. Riding since 1914, when he was "crowned" as king of the long prayed for Kingdom of God (see Mat 6:9, 10) Jesus does not take immediate control of the planet. Instead, cleansing from the "top down" he battles with Satan who until then had access to the heavens and casts him (Satan) and his demons down to the earth to which their subsequent movements and influence has been restricted since that year (see Revelation chapter 12).

Image

This last action has resulted in a period of INCREASED hardship for the earth but this will be limited to "a generation" within which Jesus will continue his conquest with taking complete control of the planet, finally ridding the earth of Satan and his demons as well as all wicked individuals and ensuring that the "meek will inherit the earth" Under his (Jesus) governance.

No, not at all. Death and disease are running rampant. I don't think that the world has ever seen these things in such a vast amount as we see today.

Not quite sure what you're referring to here. To rephrase a bit, do you mean "Does anyone doubt the THE PALE HORSE is running? OR, do you mean "Does anyone doubt who is riding THE PALE HORSE?

If your question is the first, then the pale horse, being the carrier of its rider Death, would indeed be running. Death is always happening.
If your question is the second, then the answer would be, Death.

If you have something else in mind then I'm at a loss.

Death is always happening.

The Pale horse doesn't represent death it represents diseases and in line with Jesus discourse we can understand its appearance and course to mean diseases of outstanding or noteworthy impact in tandem with the other elements of war, famine [premature] death during the ride of the first horseman (Jesus) who set out in 1914.

Just like Rev. 6:2, it isn't the horse that's significant, but who rides it,

Rev. 6:2 (NWT)
And I saw, and look! a white horse, and the one seated on it had a bow; and a crown was given him, and he went out conquering and to complete his conquest.

And with the pale horse it's Death who is named as its rider, not Disease, or Famine, or anything else.

From Wikipedia:

"The fourth and final horse is pale, and upon it rides Death, accompanied by Hades.
Wikipedia's source:

"Revelations 6:8
8 As I looked, there was a pale horse, and its rider’s name was Death. Hades followed along behind him."

"The fourth and final Horseman is named Death. Known as Θάνατος (Thanatos), of all the riders, he is the only one to whom the text itself explicitly gives a name.
Wikipedia's source:

..................Image

AND, every one of the 61 Bibles I looked at identify the rider as Death. The first five Bibles on my list:

Revelations 6:8

KJ21
And I looked, and behold, a pale horse, and his name that sat on him was Death,

ASV
And I saw, and behold, a pale horse: and he that sat upon him, his name was Death;

AMP
So I looked, and behold, an ashen (pale greenish gray) horse [like a corpse, representing death

AMPC
So I looked, and behold, an ashy pale horse [black and blue as if made so by bruising], and its rider’s name was Death,

BRG
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death,

Even your own NWT says it's Death, and no one else

8 And I saw, and look! a pale horse, and the one seated on it had the name Death.

HOW DO WE KNOW THE FOUTH RIDER REPRESENTED DEATH FROM DISEASE AND OTHER PREMATURE CAUSES?

The bible commentary Revelation it's Grand Climax at Hand points out the following:
Death rides a horse that is pale ... the word pale (Greek, khlo·rosʹ) is used in Greek literature to describe faces that are blanched, as if by disease.
Since the other two horsemen would account for death and hardship caused by war and famine the summary provided at Revelation 6:8b namely that they " ...kill with a long sword ["red" ] and with food shortage [black]" only leaves the fourth to reap the grim harvest that remain namely {quote} "by deadly plague (diseases) and by the wild beasts of the earth.”

Food shortages and famines are no longer things that only threaten 3rd world countries, increasingly we in the West are hearing warning of "food insecuries"

Why wouldn't he? After all, the Bible doesn't qualify his persona in any way. For the guy on the pale horse a death is a death is a death. But go ahead and spin it however you like. I don't think anyone is going to care, other than your god perhaps.
