the existence of demons...

Post by Tart »

I really think demons are living in my house... It is weird, it feels like they are in my body when i sleep, becuase i wake up, but its like im not in control of my body, and it moves, in a dream like state but im awake... It is rely creepy when it happens too, and it feels like there is things in my flesh that are torturing me... And then i go back to sleep...

But... like i went backpacking for 4 months, on the Pacific Crest Trail, and there wasnt a single night where i woke up and had this happen to me... But at my house it happens all the time....

God i got to get out of here...

While on the trail was your mind occupied with matters other than 'demons'?

Doesn't it tell you something when it only happens in your bed at night when you're either asleep or in a sleepy state?

What I think you have here is a state where your body and mind is still partially asleep. Not quite awake and not quite asleep. During this state you can still dream and you mind can still play tricks on you, but at the same time you are aware that you are actually awake.

I am finding this happening more and more as I age. I can be at my desk at work and almost at that stage where I nod off. I will hear voices in my head. Things being said. The best I can make out is they are things my subconscious is dragging up from something I've heard before in the past.

I went through a period of several months a few years back when I was living alone. I would awaken and I would see a shadowy figure over my bed. Very vivid. I was sure it was a person. I'd actually take a swing at this figure and find that there was nothing there. I would then start to awaken completely. Nobody of course was ever there.

One time I swung and shattered by bedroom window. Lucky I only got a small cut.

I started to coach myself that when I saw this shadowy figure, not to swing and just wait a few seconds for my head and eyes to clear. The shadowy figure would disappear and I'd be properly awake. After a while I stopped getting these "visions".

I think it's something like this you are experiencing.

The fact that this is only happening at night when you are waking up (and still sleepy) should be enough to tell you it's just your mind playing tricks on you. Why doesn't this happen when you're wide awake?

Answer: Because you're fully conscious and no longer at the mercy of your subconscious.

Train yourself not to freak. When you awaken, just pause for a few moments, give your head a shake and I bet these horrors will be gone.

If you look at the tales of demon and angel visitations, they always happen at night when people are in their beds, in a groggy tired state. Why is that? I think the answer is obvious when you really think about it and it's nothing to do with the supernatural.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

The experience sounds extremely unpleasant. I’d counsel an approach to a medically-trained therapist if that is in any way viable for you to do so (financially/logistically/etc).

‘Training yourself’ in the meantime might be as simple as incorporating some changes to your bedtime routine (as evidenced by the non-routine backpacking experience being positive) and concentrating on positive thoughts about yourself as a good person.

But common things like anxiety and depression, if they are to any degree a factor in this, can be very difficult to overcome for someone on their own. That’s why I advise exploring the trained therapy route.

I'll second what has been said namely maybe you should condider seeking help from a mental healthcare professional. I do believe demons exist but they have no power over true Christians.

Perhaps your right... But what makes someone a true Christian? I have been debating this in my head, becuase the truth of the matter is, is that i believe i have a very convincing spirit of deception in my brain, though im not interested in your opinions of my personal problems, Christians arent suppose to judge anyways (sermon on the mount), it is just the truth of the matter...

What makes someone a true Christian?

I think, well maybe if i would had been strong with the truth from the beginning then id have more of a good life now, blessed by God... Though is the poor not blessed? Are the first not last?

What if i converted and stopped sinning completely? Though who's done that? Is Paul (for instance) not a true Christian? Has anyone ceased to sin completely? And what is sin anyways? Doing bad? Not doing good? Missing the mark? All of the above?

I find it interesting. I have been thinking about what you have said in another thread... You said "engaging in pornographic material is sinful, but just passing thoughts isnt as bad" (or something to that nature, correct me if im wrong). But Jesus said anyone who looks at a girl in lust has committed adultery already in his heart, so do you think that contradicts what you said? I think it might...

What is a true Christian? To you JW?

They also have no power over people who don't believe in them. In fact it seems that only believers in demons have a problem with them.
