The ego cannot be undone solely on its own terms.
The ego cannot be dissolved, in other words, via its own system of belief and thought.
This is because egotism thrives on differentiation, and with that, comparison - greater, lesser, and so on. Nothing can escape this thought milieu. There is nothing transcendent of it. And when one is stuck here, it's simply survival of the fittest.
To become free of the ego's insanity of selfish pride, vanity and envy, one has to go beyond it. One has to arrive at a stage of Peace. And that Peace can only have its foundation, not on differences and comparisons, but on the One Sole Reality, which has nothing to do with ideas of comparison and specialness. That Reality of the true Self is of the nature of Abslolute Freedom, and one does not have to "prove" anything here. One simply has to be.
However, this does not mean there is no work involved before one arrives at that point. One has to undo the ego's thought system, and to do that one has to come to grips with the ego and free oneself from, again, pride, vanity, envy, and such. And this is hard. One cannot simply bolt away from the damage caused by the ego. One has to see the ego for what it is, and that takes some brutal honesty.
