The attributes that people vote for are debating skills and respect, rather than popularity per se. Though determining the winners for these awards is subjective, I think it does have a level of meaningful feedback on who has these qualities.
Plus, if it was just a popularity contest, I would think the winner would be me. But alas, I've never won an award!

Yes, and notice I did NOT win any tokens for it either! All that hard work trying to be interesting and I get no payoff. You'd think the least I should get is an actual visit from someone interested in meeting me.I hate to burst your bubble, but the Most like to meet in real life is a popularity contest.
