Matthew 12:40
Post #1Whenever the three days and three nights of Matthew 12:40 is brought up in a “discussion with 6th day crucifixion folks, they frequently argue that it is a Jewish idiom for counting any part of a day as a whole day. I wonder if anyone has documentation that shows that the phrase “x days and “xnights was ever used in the first century or before when it absolutely didn’t include at least parts of the “x days and at least parts of the “x nights?

Time to shake off some rust.
I know this is not what you're looking for but here's what the bible says about it:
Doesn't even our day start in darkness? 12am?
after 9th hour (day) later that evening (night)
Saturday (day) Saturday night (night)
This formula equals 3 days and 3 nights according to the biblical definition of day and night in Genesis.
If you start with darkness first, 6th to 9th hour (night), then after 9th hour (day), Friday evening (night), Saturday (day) Saturday evening (night). This equals 3 nights and 2 days and resurrection on 3rd day.
I know this is not what you're looking for but here's what the bible says about it:
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
So according to these scriptures, one night and one day equals ONE DAY!And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Doesn't even our day start in darkness? 12am?
So prior to the sixth hour there was light (day), 3 hours of darkness (night)And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour
after 9th hour (day) later that evening (night)
Saturday (day) Saturday night (night)
This formula equals 3 days and 3 nights according to the biblical definition of day and night in Genesis.
If you start with darkness first, 6th to 9th hour (night), then after 9th hour (day), Friday evening (night), Saturday (day) Saturday evening (night). This equals 3 nights and 2 days and resurrection on 3rd day.
Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

So every solar eclipse adds an extra day!? God added an extra period of darkness just so that the number of nights in the prophesy would add up?

Does this scripture describe a solar eclipse? So every solar eclipse adds an extra day!?

Did i hint at that or are you making a claim?God added an extra period of darkness just so that the number of nights in the prophesy would add up?

Do you know another way to count days and months and years without using the sun?
The letter that killeth refers to the Old Testament law. We do not trust in law.
Under the law, we are all dead. We are able ministers of the New Testament.
We live by the spirit. The letter killeth but the spirit giveth life.
You added nothing and what you brought up was out of context.

Did this comment add anything to this debate? This is what happens when you trust in the "letter that killeth".

Wrong. Millions of believers are not hearing the Spirit of God they are hearing their religions, creeds, dogmas, popes and pastors and could careless what the spirit of truth has to say inless it fits their bias and they are killing God's Word their letter of the Word which is man interpeted and man ordained.

There is no point to debate against your personal opinion about other believers. You brought up "letter that killeth" and it was out of context. What doctrine are you bringing to the table for debate?
Once again, this is the Theology, Doctrine sub-forum!

Obviously you have nothing to debate or you would have something to say and no this is not my personal opinion. All I gave was an opening statement.
Just because you are a believer does not make you spiritual in fact most believers are not spiritual their very carnal and or religious.

What doctrine would you like to debate?

How about answering a simple question?
What makes something spiritual?
