Does Ralph receive divine knowledge from Christ?

Post by polonius »

Galatians 1.(Paul)

"11 Now I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel preached by me is not of human origin. 12For I did not receive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ."

My friend Ralph, who fell off his bicycle and hit his head on the way to Damascus (Oregon), makes the same claim.

He says he has divine knowledge with he gets straight from Jesus Christ.

If we believe Paul, shouldn't we believe Ralph too?

If not, exactly why not? :-s

Thomas Paine would call either claim "hearsay". Paine does not exclude the possibility of Almighty God bestowing direct revelation on a given individual, but when the individual in question tells another, then it becomes hearsay and no one is obliged to believe it.
My theological positions:

-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.

I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

We know Paul and His gospel of grace. What is Ralph's gospel?
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

It all depends on what Ralph preaches.. And anyway i do not need to know who is inspiring Ralph.. I have Gods Word revealed in the Holy Bible.. So i have all i need to know.. Ralph might be able to sprinkle a little sugar on top but Ralph is not going to be able to change the fundamental teachings of the Gospel..

RESPONSE: Then doesn't your claim make ALL scripture hearsay?

RESPONSE: Neither Paul nor Ralph wrote any "gospels." Only letters (epistles).

And about half of Paul's are recognized as having had another author.

Is the New Testament reliable history?

In Matthew chapter 2 we are told that someone named Jesus was born during King Herod's lifetime (Herod died in 4 B.C.) This would be Jesus#1.

But in Luke chapter 2 we are told that Jesus was born during the 6AD Judean census.
This would be Jesus#2.

Only one Jesus is reported to have been crucified. Is the other one still around? :-s

If Ralph isn't asking for my money, time, worship....he's the man!
History has been full of Ralphs. And will continue to be (assuming we all survive the virus)
None have seemed to have fulfilled their objectives.
