Consequences of The Immortal Soul Myth

Twenty years ago today, devout Christian mother Andrea Yates murdered her five children in Houston, Texas.

She quickly explained in simple, easy to understand language, why she killed her children, telling psychiatrist Philip Resnick she was failing as a mother and believed she had to kill the children to keep them from going to hell. "These were their innocent years. God would take them up." If she did not take action, the children could be destined for eternal damnation. "They did a lot of silly stuff and didn't obey. They did things God didn't like."

In their innocent years, implied none of her children were sufficiently old or educated to recognize sinful actions. That is, they had no law. If they were to die before ever knowingly committing a sin, it is taught by many Christian denominations that their "immortal souls" go immediately to heaven and live with God for eternity. This is often called the "age of accountability" doctrine.

Upon hearing of the murders, Christian pastors rushed to their pulpits to confirm that the five children were indeed in a better place – they were in Heaven with God for all eternity. That is, Mrs. Yates succeeded in saving all of her children from the possibility of everlasting torment in hellfire.

Note that this is not a one-time type of event! Historically, untold numbers of children have been murdered due to this false “Christian” theology.

For example, the following double murder occurred four years after the Yates murders:

Magdalena Lopez murdered her two sons Antonio and Erik on July 19, 2005 in Dyer, Indiana. Police reported that she beat her two sons to death with a ten-pound dumbbell because she thought they'd be better off in heaven. Both deaths were caused by massive skull fractures. Mrs. Lopez was quoted as saying, 'They're in a much better place now.'

The root cause of these murders is the false belief that all mankind is born with an immortal soul.

That is, the serpent told Eve “Ye shall not surely die." Much of mankind have believed in their "immortality" ever since the serpent spoke that lie. Since we live forever, we must live somewhere. Christians proclaim they spend eternity in heaven while all others burn in hell eternally. Many follow the wide road to hell, while few take the narrow path leading to heaven. The only exception is innocent children, who go immediately to heaven for eternity upon their death.

Anyways, it's the 20th anniversary of "Christian teachings" being used to justify the murders of five innocent children! And it was not the first time nor the last time that has occurred. Someone needs to say something. Why not me -- I live close by.

Questions for debate regarding the innocence of children:
  1. Based on what they have been taught, is it any wonder that some depressed Christian mothers murder their "innocent" children and send them immediately to heaven?
  2. Isn’t it about time to demand that Christian theologians provide biblical proof that these murders of innocent children result in their immediate eternal life in paradise with God in heaven?
  3. Otherwise, won't these periodic type of murders continue?
  4. And if they are correct that deceased innocent children go to heaven for eternity, then are these periodic murders of innocent children simply an "acceptable side effect" of Christianity?
  5. And how can the murder of innocent children ever result in a "good" outcome, or be reconciled with God is Love?

I think it would be enough that they teach:

You shall not murder.
Ex. 20:13

If murdering innocent people would throw kids in to the heaven, there would not be reason to say “don’t murder".

Bible tells eternal life is for righteous. I don’t think any human can really tell who are righteous really that is why I think the judgment should be left to God.

These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
Mat. 25:46

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23
