Jesus is God - Psalm 91

Post by Wootah »

Old Testament verse 4 talks of God covering you with feathers and finding refuge under his wings:
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
Jesus knows this and would never violate the shema but then Jesus goes and says:
Matthew 23:37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. 38 Look, your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’[c]”
What no. Jesus come on. You're confusing me. Are you claiming to be God by using the same imagery.

Look at all these old testament verses where God wants us under His wings: https://www.openbible.info/topics/under_his_wings

How could Jesus fowl this one up?
Did he not know the Old Testament?

Look at Jesus words, 'how often I have longed to gather your children together". Does he mean just the last couple of years of ministry? Does he mean across history?
But he says just before, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you". He is implying across history the prophets are and were his attempt to draw them back to himself.

Is this just another example of Jesus connecting himself as YHWH?

I await rebuttals.

All humans are in the image of God, Jesus is the perfect image of that. How did he do that without being God?
He didn't do that.

God did that.

So Jesus had no free will?

He had free will after he "became flesh" as Jesus of Nazareth "who dwelt amongst us".

I don't think it is.
...
Why don't you think it is?
I don't see any good reason to think it is blasphemy what Jesus said.

I don't see any reason to think so. And actually at this point it looks like he can't even debate without teleprompter.

Dear Wootah,

I think you did a beautiful job in presenting your OP! Thank you!

Yes indeed, he ,in the meridian of time came unto his own and they received him not. Yes indeed he knew exactly whereof he spoke to the unbelieving Jews who were blinded by their unbelief even at mid day.
Yes, indeed he spoke of his desire to gather his followers both present and in ages past symbolically as a hen gathereth her chilcks under her wings. Is it not also very interesting that his comments show according to scripture the many times that he would have gathered them as so clearly shown in the OT as recorded. He spoke these things from an aged viewpoint, because I do not think that anyone can show scripture showing the he referred to this as in the present. Jesus the Christ is indeed Jehovah of the OT. He is indeed Immanuel or God with us as recorded in the New Testament.

I understand of course, that in his day, there were very many who were filled with unbelief and rejected The truth of his words. Likewise, there are many in our day who fall into the same category of the unbelieving Jews in his day.

Best regards,
RW
