Re: Forgiveness of sins
Post #3Good works earned one salvation under the Old Testament. That is, if a person never violated any of God's laws, he gained eternal life.Revelations won wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 11:47 am Did Christ forgive us in our sins or from our sins?
Must we truly repent of our sins before forgiveness is granted by the atonement of Christ?
But after Jesus gave His inheritance to us, we fell under the grace of Jesus Christ for our salvation, not our works to fulfill the law. So sin no longer controls our salvation:
Romans 6:14 wrote:For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
No, atonement is no longer linked to sin:Revelations won wrote:Must we truly repent of our sins before forgiveness is granted by the atonement of Christ?
Under the New Testament Covenant, salvation is a gift of God:John 3:16 wrote:For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 6:23 wrote:For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Post #4According to Romans 4, salvation was gift based on faith during O.T. times as well.myth-one.com wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 8:20 pmGood works earned one salvation under the Old Testament. 1 What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” 4 Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. 5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, 6 just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

Did Christ forgive us in our sins or from our sins?
What is the difference?"
Forgiveness should never be given to one who continues to commit the sin. Thus Christ will not forgive sins without true repentance. In other words he does not forgive us "in our sins".
Repentance is first required by the individual before the atonement applies and forgiveness is granted. Christ has done his part. The required repentance is our responsibility.
Kind regards,
RW
