The Sabbath - day of rest?

Post by Rose2020 »

Debates have raged over a long time over
this.
So how does one obey?

Is it Saturday or Sunday anyway? It is people who have decided over the centuries as to what constitutes 'work'. I am not sure the Bible specifies.

One point to note is that God worked for six days, then rested on the seventh. It could be He is still resting, if the eighth day is yet to come... It depends how you measure a 'day'.

The day of rest is measured as a day, or as a millennium, such as one day equals a thousand years. We are now in the 6th day/millennium, which is to say, the "day of the LORD" is at the door, which is to say, we are looking at the coming "great tribulation", such as Har-Magedon (Revelation 16:16) whereas all the cities of the nations will fall. As for the weekly day of rest, God was fairly specific, that one is "to do all their work" on the 6 days, and no one should work on your premises, either relatives or servants, on the 7th day. With respect to Sunday, the day of the sun, the day of the god (Sol Invictus) of Constantine, the beast with two horns like a lamb, who issued a decree in 331 A.D., whereas to shut down the shops and governments on Sunday, whereas no one could buy or sell on Sunday. Until recently, those laws were known as the blue laws. With respect to Isaiah, if one is to worship on God's mountain, they must keep the Sabbath, and God's commandments/covenant (Isaiah 56:6), which is to say, the "Christians" in general, keep the decrees of the beasts, and therefore carry the mark of the beast, and therefore will have to drink from the cup of God's anger (Revelation 14:10).

Christians are not under and obligation to keep a weekly Sabbath ; Jesus never asked us to. That was something God required of the people of Israel.

It doesn't much matter. The idea is to have a day of rest. When Jesus explained the importance of the Sabbath, he explained it this way:
Mark 2:23 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”

25 He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? 26 In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.”

27 Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
Jesus clearly supported the importance of the Sabbath, but not in a legalistic way as some do/did. It's simply a day to kick back and take a rest from the usual day to day grind. For most pastors that day is Monday given that Sunday is a workday for them, and Saturday is spent preparing for their Sunday duties.

Absolutely wrong!

The Sabbath is a sigh!

It is a sign... (Exodus 31:13)

It is a sign... (Exodus 31:17)

I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign... (Ezekiel 20:12)

It is a sign pointing to the end of days and the Second Coming which will be six thousand years from the creation of mankind in Genesis. Roughly between the years 2032 to 2052.

Mankind has 6,000 years of work, and believers will then spend a 1,000 year God day of rest with their Savior -- which is the Millennium Sabbath.
Hebrews 4:9-10 wrote:There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Christians are to be working to spread the good news of the gospel to all the world. The Millennium will be their day of rest.

<============================>

The true Sabbath is the seventh calendar day of the week -- or Saturday.

So the first six days of the week belong to us to work or whatever.

The seventh (which is Saturday) is the Sabbath day of rest.

Those who consider Sunday the sabbath are resting the first day, then working six days.

So they are resting from that week's work, before they even begin the work.

Sad, but funny.

Perhaps the kind of work God did in the preceding days gives a hint as to what obeying the Sabbath means. Those preceding days are all dedicated to life, to creating its conditions and to it filling the earth with it. My guess then is that taking a day of rest means sitting back and enjoying all the life and prosperity around us. Letting it all be, including ourselves, in its fullness.

Then that would mean that the Millenium couldn't possibly be the true Sabbath given that a thousand years couldn't possibly be the seventh calendar day. It would of course cover numerous calendar days.

The sabbath being discussed in the initial posting is based on the weekly calendar, which is based on the seven day week.

But in the general case, a sabbath is simply seven equal periods of time, the first six involving periods of work or usage, and the seventh period being a period of rest or idleness.

The period is not restricted to calendar days.

I have understood it is Saturday and the meaning is to rest from persons work. And work means the job that the person does for living.
