Christianity and the Trinity

A post Wootah made in the "Are Mormons Christian" thread got me thinking.

In order to be a christian, does one have to believe in the Trinity?

Already given. The word Christian is in the New Testament. In the passage cited, is specifically says that the disciples of Jesus were called Christians. That makes sense linguistically; the disciples of Karl Marx are called Marxists; the disciples of Martin Luther are called Lutherans; the disciples of Christ are called Christians.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.
First Epistle to the Church of the Thessalonians
