The modern day organisation of Jehovahs Witnesses dates from late 1800's . For more details please see my earlier post on this topic.
When and by whom was the Jehovah Witnesses founded?
http://debatingchristianity.com/forum/v ... 930#995930
The religous tradition of Jehovah's witnesses is a continuation of the first human worshipper to keep his integrity to Jehovah God, namely the faithful man Abel. The Hebrew bible speaks of Jehovah (YHWH) appointing the nation of Israel to be his (Jehovah's) Witnesses and the modern day organisation today also claims to enjoy that same standing. Since Jesus is identified in the book of Revelation being as one of Gods (Jehovah's) Witnesses, biblically speaking (if one is referring to "the formal worship of Jehovah God, the God of the bible...") the religion of Jehovah's witnesses dates back millennia.

No. Jehovah's Witnesses are not orthodix Jews and we do not believe Christians are under obligation to observe a weekly Sabbath since that was, we believe, part of the Mosaic Law which was abolished with the death of Christ.

Abolished or fulfilled?

Do they mean the same thing, or do they result in the same thing in practice?

Jesus said he came, not to abolish, but to fulfil, not only the Law, but also the Prophets.

Matthew 5:17-20+.

The worship of Jehovah, for all intents and purposes, began with Abel. There have been worshippers and witnesses of Jehovah down through the centuries since.

I don't know where they got that idea, but it isn't true. All of JWs' money goes into the world-wide preaching work, locating missionaries, printing Bibles and Bible literature, building Kingdom Halls and branch facilities in every country, helping people during and after natural disasters, and more. "Wealthiest" connotates a lot of money used for the life-styles of the upper-crust, but such is not the case with JWs. The organization is also the most transparent of all religions or charities. It opens its records for authorities to examine, with no problem.

1) What about two masters? JWs serve only one---Jehovah.

2) Those who go astray are shunned, as the Scriptures say we should, until they repent and turn back to Jehovah. (I Corinthians 5:11,13)

3) We forgive an unlimited number of times, if a brother is repentant and stops besmirching Jehovah's name by his unchristian conduct. Serious sins must be treated as Paul advized to the Corinthians.

4) Jesus went to sinners to preach to them about the Kingdom of God, for which he was sent forth. "I must declare the good news of the Kingdom of God, because for this I was sent forth." (Luke 4:43) He didn't associate with non-believers to have a party or just hang out. Why would anyone want to chill with people who didn't like the God they worshipped?

5) We don't keep a Saturday Sabbath or celebrate the Passover because Jesus fulfilled those things. Jesus became the Passover. "Indeed, Christ our Passover has been sacrificed." (I Corinthians 5:7)

When was the the JehovahWitnesses founded?

Post by polonius »

RESPONSE: "The group now known as the Jehovah's Witnesses was founded in 1879 by Charles Taze Russell, a Pennsylvania businessman. Russell's Adventist background and study of the Bible led him to conclude, among other things, that the second coming of Christ would occur in 1914, that Hellfire did not exist, and God was not a Trinity. "

Comment: So the JW's is one of the newest religions.
