How does the Bible then account for the development of the first family of Genesis, into millions of people, without incestuous relationships having occurred?
This one has been bugging me for a while. I brought it up once before in a debate and I was given some answer about Augustine perhaps I'm not sure exactly, but how is the lineage of Adam & Eve explained in the Bible and what does the Bible have to say on the subject of incest?
Any references/examples would be appreciated too, thanks
Does the Bible mention incest and if so....

They were both. Like all other members of the human race they were sinners but they were good in God's eyes because they had repented of their sins and been forgiven.barcelonic wrote: Was Noah's family 'fallen' or were they 'good' in the eyes of God?
Of course we are. This article is about Cain's wife but it applies to Noah's family too.And if they were the only people left (if the deluge wiped everyone else out), must we then be descendents of incest in Noah's family?

His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.

But what about the rest of Noah's extended family which according to the bible were the only people alive then, given it was only nine generations from creation? What about his 969 year grandfather Methusael (Gen 5:27 and his mummy and granny, and his brothers & sisters and uncles & aunts and his cousins who were all drowned according to the bible? Alas there is not a skerrick of evidence to support this.theophilus40 wrote:They were both. Why were they so naughty that they were all murdered by a wrathful god? Alas there is not a skerrick of evidence to support that fictional story.theophilus40 wrote:They were both. It seems everything went awry when Adam got the eye for his twin sister instead of sheep or his mother (Gen 2:24-5). And his identical twin 'sister' at that (Gen 2:21-3), although it took them 130 years (Gen 5:3) in trying to work out who was Arthur or Martha.keithprosser3 wrote:When you consider what we seem to get away with these days, you gotta wonder what they got up to.Why were they so naughty that they were all murdered by a wrathful god?

What makes you think that they were alive at the time of the flood? His father was dead and Metushelach was alive in the year of the flood, but that does not mean he died in the flood. Regarding his brothers and sisters, are you saying that you have never heard of siblings not going bad. Is the Batman shooter innocent just because his brother is not a mass murderer?

Although Noah's daddy (Gen 4:18 5:31) had already kicked the bucket, there is no evidence that his mummy or granny had. Perhaps Methusael/Methuselah (Gen 4:18 5:27) coincidently had a heart attack when he heard the rain falling at the rate of over six inches per minute for a month, or was bitten by a taipan when they were herding the snakes, or perhaps was eaten by a croc or a jaguar. But either way, he probably wasn't one of those family members which Noah fancied and perhaps was similar to the falling out between Jesus and his family (Matt 13:55-8 Matt 12:46-50).bluethread wrote:mitty wrote:

@Theophilus
The reason I asked is because I'd been told by another poster that incest wasn't a sin at the time of Adam & Eve but it was later on, and my post was to try to ascertain whether Noah's family lived after the fall I'd just been told about.
Ie, I was trying to find out whether Yahweh had deemed incest a sin before or after Noah's time, and therefore whether any incestuous relationships at that time would have been sinful in the eyes of God.
