What is Science anyways?

Science: A field/subject/branch of knowledge that deals with facts derived from observation and experiment to systematically find the inner workings of the natural world.

http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/defin ... sh/science
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/science

Fields/Subjects/Branches of Science : Will be using Wikipedia for this although I am do not trust wiki completely for certain specifics, it is a great for generalized information. I also do not want to type for a year. This is generalized posting many are far too complex to define completely.

BRANCHES

Formal: "The formal sciences aid the natural sciences by providing information about the structures the latter use to describe the world, and what inferences may be made about them." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formal_science

Contains: Logic, Mathematical logic, Mathematical statistics, Theoretical computer science

Physical Science: "Branch of natural science that studies non-living systems."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outline_o ... al_science

Contains: Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Space Sciences

Life Sciences: "Life sciences comprise the fields of science that involve the scientific study of living organisms."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_life_sciences

Contains: Biology in all it's glory and sub fields.

Social Science: "Social science is a major category of academic disciplines, concerned with society and the relationships among individuals within a society."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_science

Contains: Anthropology, Archaeology, Criminology, Demography, Economics, Geography (human), International relations, Law, Linguistics, Pedagogy, Political science, Psychology Science, Education, and Sociology.

Applied Science: "Applied science is a discipline of science that applies existing scientific knowledge to develop more practical applications, like technology or inventions."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Applied_science

Contains: Engineering, Healthcare

Philosophy of Science: "Philosophy of science is a branch of philosophy concerned with the foundations, methods, and implications of science. The central questions of this study concern what qualifies as science, the reliability of scientific theories, and the ultimate purpose of science."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy_of_science

Contains: All science and although one of if not the most controversial science, yet to me science would not be without philosophy. I also agree there is a line that is blurry when talking about philosophy and science.

Wikipedia also has Interdisciplinary, these are although valid, not entirely a science unto there own. There is much contention about this and since it does not contain defined parameters I am not including.

For now that is it I will breakdown some branches into direct fields. Help from those able will be appreciated.

My friend wrote a book on the meaning of science in real life... <shrug>

What do you think?
PCE Theology as I see it...

We had an existence with a free will in Sheol before the creation of the physical universe. Here we chose to be able to become holy or to be eternally evil in YHWH's sight. Then the physical universe was created and all sinners were sent to earth.

This theology debunks the need to base Christianity upon the blasphemy of creating us in Adam's sin.

The M/W definiton is a poor one, I'd stick with the Oxford ... since there are no absolute "facts" but rather just likelihoods

Wiki is fine, if there are things you find that are not trustworthy ... change them, or let me know and I'll be happy to do so (if warranted).

Anthropology is split, physical anthropology is a life science, cultural anthropology is a social science. Psychology is going the same way as neurophysiology replaces what used to be just psychology.

I am hardpressed to view engineering as science.

Frankly I was hoping to see definitions for things such as "kinds."

Umm engineering is applied science completely. As per anthropology I was with all being generic in terms not specific kinds. One could write a book size of most large cities phone books to describe specific splits from generic field into specialization of study. This is not my intent nor do I think I will be expanding due to the time it would take.

Now if any want to know I am willing to answer but am busy right now and will be for awhile.
