Christian-Sponsored Hatred for Gays

Post by Jagella »

Do you support Christian hatred for gays?

I was inspired to broach this topic after reading a column in the January 2020 issue of Scientific American. The column written by the editors is entitled Time's Up for "Anti-Gay Therapy." According to those editors:
Although medical and psychological associations have asked explicitly that Congress and state governments ban anti-gay conversion (by Christians), there has been a backlash from (Christian) groups like the Liberty Council, which promotes "evangelical values."
The column condemns the "detestable practice" of the attempt by many Christians to alter a person's homosexuality because the practice does "irreparable harm" to people. Forty-two percent of a subgroup who have had this "therapy" inflicted on them have committed suicide.

These are nothing but your beliefs. You can believe in anything that you wish, but just because you believe something is true does not make it true.
:-s
That is very much a two way street.
George Orwell:: “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.”
Voltaire: "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."
Gender ideology is anti-science, anti truth.

A most sapient, germaine and felicitous observation for this thread. Indeed, your whole post demonstrates an attitude to your fellow humans which should properly be called ‘Christian’ in its most noble sense.

I truly hope that some here who read your words will perhaps have the edge taken off their fear of ‘the other’ through the start of understanding.

What you're saying here is misleading. While there may be no single "gay gene," sexual preferences do have a genetic component. See No ‘gay gene’: Massive study homes in on genetic basis of human sexuality.

In any case, homosexuals should not be murdered like the Bible commands.

I will never understand why it is that if God finds something offensive enough that he wants the offenders killed, he insists that conflicted humans do the job rather than doing his own dirty work.

But why are you attributing these things as the consequence of homosexuality itself, as opposed to other factors associated with homosexuality?
There is no evidence that people are born gay, there is no "Gay gene".
But there are plenty of evidence that sexuality is not chosen trait.
If there is no "Gay gene" then homosexuality would have to fall under the context of choice.
Why do you believe that? Especially after you've acknowledge that circumstances beyond a person's control can cause homosexuality in that person?

Well, Jehovah does do plenty of his own dirty work. I suppose in some cases he wants his followers to act like he does.

Then Jehovah rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah out of heaven; and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. including all the children and heterosexual inhabitants.

Christians who offer the biblical writings as "evidence" that THEIR version of "God" created the universe and the mud-man, and then flooded this planet only a few chapters of "scripture" prior to this particular act of indiscriminate genocide …

Are obliged to also accept this barbarism by their Jehovah/Jesus/Holy Ghost as part of the "Word of God".

And some Christians are happy to do just that …

And back it up with threats of an eternal torture chamber …

And the ultimate judgment, being cast into the lake of fire when Christ returns. (ibid)
"God" … just whatever humans imagine it to be.

"Scripture" … just whatever humans write it to be.

Some Christians agree with Jesus that the "Law" is NOT abolished …

And they seem willing to help him fulfil it ….

"Scripture" … just whatever humans write it to be.

Wonder if those holding signs are wearing T shirts that are 100% cotton to avoid the prohibition of mixed fabrics (and if they piously avoid eating pork and lobster).

Wonder also if all of them have been completely free of homosexual acts themselves. Many famous homophobes have been exposed as being gay or bisexual.

If one of the stick figures was female, would that be okay?

ANY of the thousands of "gods" proposed, imagined, worshiped, loved, feared, and/or fought over by humans MAY exist -- awaiting verifiable evidence

WHY DO CHRISTIANS ACCEPT THE WEARING OF CLOTHES MADE FROM MIXED FABRICS AND THE EATING OF CERTAIN SEAFOODS BUT REJECT HOMOSEXUAL ACTS?
  • For Jehovah's Witnesses it is because we believe these prohibitions were part of the mosaic law, all of which were abolished with the death of Christ. Sex outside biblical marriage* is explicitly stated in "the new testament" as being something that should not be tolerated in the Christian congregation and something which, if practices unrepentently, disqualifies a person from being on the road to salvation (see 1 Cor 6:9, 10).

ABOLITION

Did Jesus not say he had not come to abolish the law [Mat 5:17] ?

Does Mat 5:18 not indicate that none of the Mosaic law would ever pass away?
