Hebrews 13:4 ESV /
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

1 Corinthians 7:3-5 ESV /
The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

1 Corinthians 6:18 ESV /
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

Genesis 2:24 ESV /
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

1 Corinthians 7:2 ESV /
But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

Proverbs 5:18-19 ESV /
Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 ESV /
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;

Matthew 5:28 ESV /
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 ESV /
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 7:5 ESV /
Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Colossians 3:5 ESV /
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

“You shall not commit adultery.

Genesis 39:7-10 ESV /

He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not listen to her, to lie beside her or to be with her.

1 Corinthians 6:13 ESV /
“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 ESV /
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 6:32 ESV /
He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.

Romans 13:13-14 ESV /
Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

Ephesians 5:3 ESV /
But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.

Galatians 5:19-21 ESV /
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Romans 1:26-27 ESV /
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Mark 7:20-23 ESV /
And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” ...

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Do you notice you have accused the Bible of making claims without evidence and then you did just the same thing that you accuse the Bible of? Also, how did your post relate to the topic?

Ah, the difference is I am here to justify my philosophical and theological positions. Sadly, the authors of the Bible are not. We are left therefore, with a bunch of bald assertions. Some of which are most unkind, to say the least. And therefore quite inconsistent with Jesus' notion of a loving, forgiving, redeeming Father of all humanity.

How does the post relate to the topic? Read the last 2 or 3 pages of the thread. If you still don't get it, ask me again, and I will explain.

Best wishes, 2RM.

So when the bible says to flee from sexual immorality/fornication it means to avoid having sex with someone one isn't truly in love (not lust) with....
I can't disagree with this.
Do you think that is the biblical meaning of fornication? ie. "fornication" isnt in fact sex outside of god ordained marriage but sex without true love?

I wonder is this is a prevelent view amongst mainstream Christians. This is surprising to me but it explains a lot about morals amongst nominal Christians.

1 CORINTHIANS 5:11-14

But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church ? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
Best wishes to you too 2RM

My dear JW,

If it is possible to love someone without being married to them, then I think one can make love to that special someone without fornication being an appropriate accusation*. Fornication I associate with cheap, casual sex.

And I do not think it a useful tactic to refer to nominal Christians (Christians in name only: Chino's). Truth is, we are all pilgrims making our way through life and all it's testing situations. We may not all agree on the route, and we certainly proceed at different speeds from different locations, but our final goal, whether we admit to it or not, whether we believe in Him or not, is a loving union with God. And we need encouragements to reach that destination, not disparagments, denigrations and deprecations.

Best of wishes, 2RM.

*Just to state my own partisan situation, in case you want to judge me; I am a celibate. Sex, which in my youth seemed so important, no longer holds much interest for me. The thing is, I now hold people in higher esteem than orgasms.

It's a book written by men, not any god. It was later edited and translated by other men, not any god. Attributing the bible for anything other than a book to base one's life around as you wish is wrong IMO.
